Re: Zurich living cost

Thanks everyone for the input.

30 CHF per day on food is too high - I'm not planning on subsidising fast food or pre-made food every day when that one-day amount would easily cover self-made sandwiches for a week or more.

Aim is to have a budget which is comfortable but not luxury, forces self-discipline, and has some scope for saving. The bigger items are fixed and non-negotiable so easier for me to just have control.

So far seems something like monthly amounts of:

400 CHF for food
100 CHF for non-food groceries
100 CHF for clothing, shoes etc
200 CHF for saving and/or spending

So 800 CHF/month? I actually really struggle to evaluate that - it kind of sounds a lot for those things, but when I compare it to our household monthly credit card bill it seems reasonable or even a bit low.

Salary will be low in the first year, around 500 CHF/month net, so I'd be subsidising 300 CHF ("cash", plus the other stuff).
