Re: Buying a house in Germany and working in Basel what's the catch?

I have a related query.

My GF owns a property in Germany.

Her ex-husband is the co-owner and now wants his money back. As she cannot pay him out, she will have to sell the property unless I step in. So we decided to see if this is possible

We have talked to banks in Germany and they are willing to give me a mortgage based on my Swiss salary.

However, my main place of residence would remain Zürich.

My questions:

- could I deduct German mortgage payments from my Swiss tax declaration?
- one of the banks (actually the one that is making us the best offer) is saying they can only provide the mortgage if I make my "Zweitwohnsitz" there, ie, second place of residence. What would this entail legally and taxwise?

Is this a no go?
