You can I think do Carrier Preselect (or voluntary select) on Cablecom phones - but the reason they had/have no agreements in-place is that they say their charges are so low anyway.

With regards to your dropouts - does anyone else in your building have Hispeed? It might be a signal strength issue. http://perftest.cablecom.ch - how close does that claim to be to your advertised speeds?

If you have a firewall on your PC, you could try bypassing the router. What router do you have? In theory, there is no PPP-whatever as you have ethernet connect to WAN and your router processes LAN traffic....
