Swiss real estate price trends from the Swiss National Bank

Interesting snippet in the latest quarterly report (in English) from the Swiss National Bank. See page 32 of this report on their website http://www.snb.ch/en/mmr/reference/q...omplett.en.pdf

It shows that rents on new apartments in Switzerland as a whole fell quite considerably throughout 2009-falling by over 5% when over the past 10 years they have never fallen more than a fraction of a percentage and in stark contrast to 2002 when rents on new apartments rose c.25%. Conversely owner-occupied apartment purchase prices rose by 6.7%. Can put this unusual situation down to the very low interest rates available during this time.
