As far as I can tell, adverting can't be removed now from the front page, even when you are logged in ?

The layout may not be fantastic (ok yes, its pretty rubbish), but I fail to see how it can stop a regular user looking at the site. Im a reasonably heavy browser of EF, and it's hardly that bad.
The most annoying thing is the quick search function, it's useless.

i flick on to see if there are new recent posts occasionally and this makes it more difficult. makes the first page look like a newspaper article

that was always my first thing I did, click that stupid monkey away or the same silly head looking out of that car or whatever it was.
and yes that homepage is a pure catastrophe. looks like a volcano erupted all over the place or something.

However im guessing he will stick with this, and that it will continue to be tweaked over the next couple of weeks... so just keep moaning and keep making suggestions for the bits that need improving loud enough that he hopefully sorts it out. Change generally sucks, but usually sucks less when its finished.

Here is something I hadn't noticed (maybe it was there on the old one)
Whenever I click the link to the thread on the new homepage, it takes me to: http://www.englishforum.ch/blablablabla-new-post.html
Now sometimes that is the first post, and sometimes that is the last, or middle or next to last.
nitpickint it a lil bit:
Home uses post numbers, new post uses replies as counters. No biggie

Change generally sucks, but usually sucks less when its finished. | | | | | 1. It is perfectly possible to change a logo or color scheme in order to look more like toytown without screwing up the usability. EF was simply the better forum compared to toytown. the last post by editor bob is a perfect example: On the old EF, you could see how many posts a thread has, who made the last one and jump there. Now you need to know that the time stamp in the top right corner means "click me and jump to the last post in a thread". This is simply terrible webdesign.
2. We did actually give the recommendations about two weeks ago. They were ignored completely. You can find them at the beginning of this merged thread.
3. If toytown is bad and we are now supposed to look like them, I would not expect the feedback to be heard at all - just as my repeated request for the tapatalk update over the last four months. If they don't have it on the other inferior site, we won't have it either.
I find it a pity and do not understand why the websites need to look the same... or are we soon "toytown Switzerland"?

OK, here's what I don't understand - at the very start of this thread, there was a preview glimpse of the new-look home page, which was met with mainly negative comments (I wrote that it looked like a poor quality, free newspaper). Then when it went "live", it appeared that readers views were taken into consideration, and common sense prevailed by retaining the old style home page. Then after several/many subtle changes along the way, I come home from a days skiing, today, and it's reverted back to this crappy newspaper front page look -- with too much irrelevant info.; and the easily found details from previously are now missing or hidden. So I now find myself viewing the sub-forums lists, and the biggest problem I have with that is, that there is no date of when the thread was started - so am I viewing something current and topical, or is this a 2nd-hand out-dated thread, to which someone has just tagged on a reply? Obviously I can click on the thread link to see it's inception date -- but what I, and I suspect many others need, is brief, informative details that can be seen at a quick glimpse - and not hidden in a sea of meaningless, un-needed script.

On this new-look home page, I see there's the date of when the thread was started and by whom. But on what do you click to see the the first post, of each thread? By clicking on the title, only takes you to the last post. Do you need to scroll backwards from there? [real pain in the proverbial].
Would also like to see the name of whoever has posted the last reply. I have different levels of interest for different contributors' input.
