Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Did someone already mention that the windows don't resize to the browser / screen ?

I have all this wasted white space on the left and right, a lot of wasted space...

Ditto on in looking like a cheap newspaper. And the font size is slightly too small to be comfortable. I'm using firefox. Anyone who optimises for the sake of windows explorer is small-minded....

And the logo comes up very slightly fuzzy. I hate that...it should be crisp and clear...

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

I also think its rather silly to plug in your facebook, and have your personal photo and name linked to your username....Sure, we can track you down, but the whole point of having a 'user name' that is not your real name is so that you can have a 'secret identity'...isn't it ???

edited to add: kind of feels like a 'dating site' to have people's private photos turning up on the forum...

Apparently, someone doesn't really care about what we are thinking... What matters is the amount of ads he can put in here for visibility!

So I now find myself viewing the sub-forums lists, and the biggest problem I have with that is, that there is no date of when the thread was started - so am I viewing something current and topical, or is this a 2nd-hand out-dated thread, to which someone has just tagged on a reply?
Interesting to note: when I cut and pasted my above quote, the capitals had all been replaced by lower case (now rectified)

The search IDs are temporary ..

I'd suggest using: http://www.englishforum.ch/search.php?do=getnew

or

I was just about to write this, just want to say too, I am using firefox with adblock, so I see absolutely no ads at all and have no wasted space either side of the pages.
Perhaps take a look at your monitors resolutions, or even check you haven't got your F11 key permanently on, or conversely, put it on?

Apart from the fact that Editor Bob, can't see it in himself to respond to the thread other than giving occasional tech updates, I don't understand the upset.
It would be the polite thing to do, to at least acknowledge peoples concerns tho, I feel.

Mind, this thread is under announcements after all and wasn't actually asking permission to go ahead, it was a statement, with an invitation for comments.
So while diplomacy may be lacking and all, I can imagine for him running all these different sites, it must make life easier if all sites have the same workings/settings &cetera, that he is most familiar with and will therefore be easier to keep in check.

That's my opinion on the whole thing anyway, I also think it won't be too long and it will all be a gripe of the past, once all the regular users get used to it.

Strange .... Mr. Foxy is giving me a normal display - have you tried full-screening (F11), then again F11 (back to normal) to see if it sorts out?

OH my, it's horrid... maybe I'll get used to it, or maybe I'll just follow what other have done and change the home page to the one jrspet linked ( http://www.englishforum.ch/search.php?do=getnew ) Which I guess makes the changes pointless, no

Don't worry about all the wasted space either swisspea, I'll bet Editor Boob just hasn't got around to filling it with ads yet... that we can turn off anymore.

Who was daft enough to think we deserved to be heard anyway... vive la commercial entity... not

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

I think I've said it before, but I just slide in to my control panel ... I come here so much I just need to type 'e', then it's the first option in the drop-down menu of previously visited sites ... hate to think of what may happen to me if I log in on a strange computer!

YES! It's driving me to drink. I like to read more than one window at a time and sometimes what videos & movies. Now I can only have EF open.... Annoying!

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Perhaps EFers should go on a posting strike. After all, without us there would be no new content...

Wonder how long that would last...

Cheers,
Nick

How about you start, Nick?
Would need to be a browse strike as well ... as advertisers are just interested in how many people view the site, as opposed to active posters.
