Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

I was on the original toytownmunich before I moved to Zurich so "know" EB from "back in the day". There are many aspects of TT, restaurant and bar listings, for example, that we would love to see on EF, but the homepage layout, as with the current TT is just a disaster.

I'll add my vote to the "hate it" crowd, but would ask that EB add a restaurant/bar page where non-flouncing-members who plan to stick it out and not shoot the cheese can actually add some value to the forum.

I would love to see something like this. Another expat forum (GLocals) has a review section which covers not only restaurants and bars but many other types of business (eg I found it useful when looking for an English-speaking dentist recently). This would certainly add to site traffic.

And there is also another one here which I will start to use a lot more often now.

Hi, sorry I don't have time to read all the 14 pages, I'd advance search if this question has been raised already, except my question is - where is the advance search now?

Well, it is intended to be under Quick Links, Advanced Search (or appears as a link after you have done a normal search)
BUT
if you are already on the normal search page, and select Quick Links, the sub-menu item for Advanced Search leads to the "new PM" page. Oops.

Really? I remember that there were plenty of "charity" activities and most of the discussions had nothing at all to do with money - so if there were financial troubles a common user as me was not aware of it. Various people in the mod team had copletely different ideas in which direction the EF should develop... that was more of a strategic fight than finding a way of financing the website.

Anyway: I find it stupid to ask for feedback, then ignore it, then switch the design, then get a load of negative feedback and ignore that as well... till now.

I am not against ads at all. I can fully live with EF being a website that makes a profit. But as a marketer I have to say that it is a very stupid idea to not listen to the customers... especially if you are in a market where a number of alternatives are available for said customers.
You're right. I was simplifying things.

Just found it - have to do a simple search first, then the advanced search option comes up with your results (or lack thereof, in the case of my search for "advanced search" ... ).
Hopefully there's a short-cut to get there, instead of having to do a preliminary search first!

That's fine, but EF has enough posts with pages and pages of people's opinions on restaurants that I will never visit in cities where I do not live. TT's page breaks down the listings by city, then by type of food and/or location, and provides individual pages for each restaurant with address, webpage, etc, as well as space for comments.

This is an example of a specific restaurant and here are the general restaurant listings in Munich.

How about you start, Nick?
Would need to be a browse strike as well ... as advertisers are just interested in how many people view the site, as opposed to active posters.

How would you ask for a salary while not posting? pm?

In that style I can actually close up the window without having to scroll across. Is there anything I can do on my side to fix this problem?

Under Quick links at the top there is -I think -a new section called "Low Fat Forum" - it seems to have the first paragraph of each post - I guess you can check it out and then read the whole thread if it interests you??

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

If the purpose of this thread is to generate profit by increasing the traffic, it might as well do with negative replies. The new design is atrocious and lackluster. It will just make little babies cry

As mentioned before, some features i.e. search function work better for me now and are somewhat faster but general look of the site is ugly. I liked more blue colour in tabs and bars in the past. Surely, it is just a matter of getting used to the new outlook but why the hell changing something that was already looking good?

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Just to add my two penneth - the new home page is as much use as an ash tray on a motor bike.

You've gone thirty three steps backwards and none forwards.

The old layout might have been a bit clunky but it was streets ahead of this mess.
