Coming soon... EF will be getting a slightly new look.

The header, logo, and top menu will change. The rest of the forum remains the same.

The aim of this is to make the look and feel more consistent with the other websites in our family, namely: thelocal.se, thelocal.de, and toytowngermany.com

To see a preview, click the following:

Note that those two previews are not fully functional. Parts of them don't work properly. But still, you get the idea of what it will look like.

Feedback welcome.
Hmmm...for a sec looked like Drupal, but it isn't?
What CMS are you using?

Thx

paul

While I acknowledge the benefits of inculcating the virtues of patience to fretful and restless netizens, I would welcome the removal of the 15-second interval between two consecutive searches (which incidentally includes new posts).

Be forewarned that clicking on Facebook's "Like" button will then expose your Facebook identity (picture included) on EF. It doesn't show your corresponding EF account name but maybe some one might put 2 and 2 together after seeing your Facebook account. So if annonimaty is your thing you might want to skip that.
On a related note: if you "like" something that can be seen as an insult according to Swiss law you technically spread the insult and therefore do something illegal... the case in St. Gallen is btw far weaker than many posts I read on EF: http://www.20min.ch/news/ostschweiz/story/28027307

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Good that the search function is more prominent and the word "Switzerland" now appears there.

I suggested years ago that there should be some sort of strap-line in the header along the lines of "For everyone living in or moving to Switzerland". The idea being that the forum is not learning English.

Otherwise it's low-key to the point of being dull. Why not change the colour of forums a little rather than looking like every other vB forum??

Actually that works well for me. As a Professional writer, I can use the excuse that it is a vital resource

you're not seriously comparing the new version to a facebook facelift are you?

I mean if anything this is at best a facedrop, and at worst a violation of my human rights!

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

I appreciate that the forum needs to make money hence the increase in ads etc. But it does seem a bit strange that this is purely a forum (not a newspaper with a discussion board etc) and the hardest part on the page to read is the forum overview.
It's so condensed and the titles are so small that I find myself without any desire to read it. Is it possible to have an option where the thread preview can be turned off (de-cluttering the page) and the current 'holding cursor over title preview' option is maintained?

As the forum overview is where I lurk (rather than on the forum listings) I think this new layout will curtail the amount of time I spend on EF. But then this may mean I get more accomplished at home

I'm a great believer in "If it ain't broke don't fix it" - I find the page to be very cluttered - if I was a newbie, I think it would put me off

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

interesting tag on this thread - should one be worried..

As others said already;
-I like the upcoming events feature - makes it easy to see what is going on.
-The forum overiew gives a bit of a cramped/busy impression, and I'd appreciate to see who the poster is and in which section it is in.

...and I like that the name on top include Switzerland and that the "EF people" are still part of the logo

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Hi , can we maximize the real estate ? a forum is not principally about white space on both sides, I should think. Information has more value to the user than nice wide empty margins. Compare with the nearest book, if you have one handy. Thank you .

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

Like several others, I find the new front page rather cluttered with text. Some space between details would make them easier to read.

I would also like to see the OP details kept and detail of which forum the posts are in.

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

In our "family"? When did EF become part of family?

PS: The proposed front page is impossible to read. Too much text. What's wrong with having it like other successful forums with the thread list only, ie. like it is now?

Re: EF is getting a slightly new look

I'm not sure whether my input has much value, since I pretty much come straight in to my control panel, subscriptions or new posts ... but overall, the only change I don't like is the difficulty in identifying the OP and thread location on the front page 'overview'. The other stuff I feel I can work around ... as long as the URL for my usercp stays the same!
