If this is going to be how it stays, then I like it.
The calendar is well done, not sure if that was there before but the way it opens into an outlook type display is nice.
The question is...... is this it or is more coming ?

That header section is pretty messed up!
You need the logged in as div to be right aligned and why on earth are you using inline styles??
Edit: and also worth noting that the colour scheme for vBulletin is now completely unmatched to the header and the background colours...
I suggest using the grey in the header and the link blue for the vBulletin colours...
This will need a lot of tweaking before it's finished!

I cannot browse on EF discreetly like before with a minimal window in the corner. I have to stretch it all across my screen to get the full view of the menu and posts etc. | Quote: | | | | | there will always be more coming..

I don´t really mind the new look, somewhat unballanced on the screen but what do I know what new fancy screen format it´s supposed to fit..I am busy trying to find a proper apostrophy myself on this funky keyboard |

The header info is clean but is so different from the rest of the forum body that they clash. Clearly a lot more work needs to be done. | Quote: | | | | | An obvious and easy "fix" agreed but I would rather not have to zoom in just to get the same page as I had yesterday. As someone who's administered a few vbulletins forums, I'm sympathetic to the urge to change things around, but you should only change things that add value for the user.
The trouble with the suggested change is that it seems to reduce 'the user experience'. I can't see as much in one glance with the new format as I can with the existing. I also don't see a way of jumping straight to the last post in a thread, so you're asking me to work harder to get to the same place.
It looks like a classic case of Hutber's Law, which states that "Improvements invariably make things worse".

I suppose in time I'll be able to hit New Posts (which is what I use most of all) without wandering across the screen to find it, but the other thing I use a great deal, 'Search', doesn't seem a great success at the moment on my machine.
Maybe it's just me, but entering a word on the 'front page' in the search field doesn't seem to find anything at all; into the menu, Quick search doesn't find something as simple (and important) as hiking, whether the option 'and' or 'or' is chosen; Advanced Search is OK, but the button is not as 'visible' as the other two options beside it - so someone new to searching may not even see it; Google Powered I like and it saves me time having it handy.
Links are slightly less obvious than they were before when they were underlined. I appreciate that a lot of folk didn't click on them anyway, but I did, and now, with just the difference in colour, I see them less clearly. Old age creeping on and all that.

Or am I doing something wrong? Now I go to the calendar and then I have to scroll to the bottom to change to the commercial calendar, which I use more often than the social (necessary for finding cheese events).

Why is the advanced search function so hidden now?
Can we have that back I use it a hell of a lot and I would have thought that is something that needs to be promoted.
Also how do I now get to private messages?
Also can we get some feedback...at the moment Editor Bob you are coming across as a dictator here.
Why post a thread if you don't reply?

Another vote for a horizontal scrollbar as my laptop runs at 1024x768 and I had to reduce the font size just to notice that there was a "Page 5" to this thread.
Didn't anyone check it, by resizing a window, before making the changes live? Or maybe it's all a ploy and the first set of adverts will be for laptops.

Something's set wrong. The window width should be a percentage of the total - and the total should be 100 % (or something like that).
FYI, Toytowngermany has the same problem.

- Quick Links (at top);
- Click on "Private Messages" on left (under "My Settings");

- User Control Panel/Forum Jump
Seek, and ye shall find (well click about a bit, at least)

The quicksearch seems to be fairly useless as it doesn't seem to be indexing all of the pages.
I went to the off topic section, and did a search for two items appearing in the top 10 threads there. One returned no results (Queensland, should have returned this thread: Major floods in Central Queensland, Australia) and the second returned a completely different result (Christchurch, should have returned this thread: Massive earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand).
The second returned a result for a thread titled Christmas invading Oriental culture? "Christmas boycott" petition can rest now (1), but clicking on the result returns a list of http://www.englishforum.ch/index.php?showtopic=2915, the home page.
Editor Bob, did you release this and then go on holiday?
ETA, where does one find a list of all subscribed threads with new posts?

Just to point out the obvious, the Search feature seems to be kaput with the roll out of the new look.
I can't find a thing!!! Negative search results for everything.
(and now I see that other people already pointed that out, too... I'll go back to eating my corn flakes)

Don't like the "new look" at all! Everything scrunched together as if space is at a premium. Why change just to be like others - remain original! The site is really good as it is. If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!!!!!
