We are looking at the possibility of publishing in other countries but nothing is set in stone yet. (If anyone has specific suggestions, or if you would like to work with us on setting up a new country, then please feel free to contact us.)
You'll have some trouble competing with the noble South Wales Argus

or the Bridgwater Mercury:

Re: Introducing The Local - Switzerland's news in English

So you want feedback? I came to Englishforum.ch. Not thelocal.ch I don't appreciate a pop up like this coming up when I come to Englishforum.ch

It's bad enough that the 'Swiss News' is still considered 'new'

WHO'S WITH ME!?

The simple answer is don't use the Home page. I wouldn't have known about this unless you mentioned it. I start from 'Todays Posts' 'New Posts' or 'My Subscriptions'.

Did I not give you rep the other day? I think you should just support me... otherwise it could go red next time

Just trying to offer the simplest solution

I do agree that the pop-up is unneccessary on the home page.

More upsetting is that the list of contacts & email addresses for English Forum and The Local seems to have disappeared from the header.

Thing is I read it now and again but it's never up to date, whats the point in a news site if it's no longer relevant?

Still there if you click on "Imprint" at the bottom of every page ... except the home page!

Re: Introducing The Local - Switzerland's news in English

For those annoyed by the pop-up: it's a one-time deal*. Click "Close" and it will go away and you should never see it again.

I appreciate that there's already a link in the forum header, that there've been previous announcements, and that as a result most all the regulars "already knew it was there". On the other hand... I can't help observing that we've done our level best to make the "New Thread" button visible and prominent, we've hidden "Contact Us" in small letters way down at the bottom of the page, and we still get several emails per week from people who've been able to find the latter but not the former. Either half our newbies are obsessive intrepid private eye types who read all the fine print before they do anything else, or this whole Visibility of Links on a Webpage business isn't as straightforward as it would appear. Hence the temporary popup.

*I am not sure whether it is one time per logged-in username, or per IP address, or what exactly - but the chaps in Stockholm were very clear that it isn't meant to display every time you access the home page. So if that's the behavior anyone's seeing, please do let us know (and we'll let them know).

If you read the 20 Minuten, what's the point of reading an English translation the same news in English, anyway?

The one time thing seems to be the case. It was particularly annoying on my phone though

Or even Swissinfo if you can't be bothered with the local languages.

Zurich is still preparing to set winter on fire, over a month later.

Swissinfo has been good but there have been tough times for it to keep going. Although presently I think there future is secured a little better now.

To be fair, Zurich is still trying to catch up with the 1980's.

Re: Introducing The Local - Switzerland's news in English

The pop-up has appeared every time I have visited the forum today.

Once only? My furry buttocks. How would they make that work, anyway?

It only comes up for me when I click on your profile, so about once an hour. I can live with that.

I received it only once - perhaps it has something to do with cookies on a per machine basis.
