Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

We were just emailing that ok, that weekend is not very good to meet up, but no worries, maybe next one or so, we'll see, plenty of time..

Still can't believe it.

Normally in those kind of situations you would say "What a waste of young life". But obviously Begga did more and touched more people with the years that she had than most people do in several lifetimes. I'm lucky to have known her.

Hi resident, I think the plan is for a group of people to meet a bit earlier - I am not 100% sure of the details but maybe you could talk to LIB or Angela-74 so that you could meet up with them?
There have been lots of groups going spontaneously (and that's fine), but people are missing out because they didn't know.

This group leaving All Bar One on Wednesday 6th 8pm is hopefully going to be seen by most people (I cross-posted deliberately) and is timed to be accessible to people from other cities, whilst giving enough time to return.

All Bar One is a pub in the Steinenvorstadt Nr. 27 in Basel. Meet up 8pm and we move to the No. 3 tram at 8.30pm

I shall have an orange scarf on to be easily recognised.

Amazing. thank you very much.
You are very welcome. If anyone else would like me to do this for them, send me a PM and I'll give you my address. Just make sure I have it by Friday as the post comes at odd hours here and I may have set off before it arrives on Saturday.

Dear Begga..., you are not only mine and RitaLynns friend, but we also love you as our daughter... You never got to meet your brothers and sister, but they would love you as much as we do... One day you will all get to meet and it will be a great day.... have a safe trip... see you "in the spring"...

A condolence book has also been dropped off at my market stall at the Viadukt and that will be at the HB market today then at the Viadukt again Thursday and Friday and on Saturday at the Ploughmans lunch in Rapperswil where it will sent on to Beggas family.

I've not seen it yet but I've been told that it's thick enough that photos can also be put in this.

I wonder if it might also be possible to include a print out of this thread? There are many lovely words on here that it might be nice for her family to have everything in one book so that they can read through them whenever they wish.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

To those who have seen the book - what format is it approximately? Just so that people could tailor any notes/photos they may want to send to that approximate size.

As for the thread, I can offer to print the thread and bind it in a booklet, that might be more manageable? I work on Friday and we have a binding machine in our office, so I could include anything written in this thread by Friday evening?

I'm able to go to Basel on Friday afternoon - would anyone else like to join me in honouring and remembering Begga at the accident site? Timing is flexible. Would also appreciate very much meeting a few of Begga's Basel friends.

(The 7th day death anniversary is significant for people from my cultural background as it is said that one's spirit comes back for a final look-see or farewell on that day before setting off on the final journey.)
Hi Argus,
I would be happy to meet you in Basel, unfortunately Friday is not possible. Plus i am not sure i am ready to meet people just yet. If you contact me next week i would be happy to meet with you and share some of my Basel memories with Begga.

Also, although not planned yet, Basel folk would like to do a formal wake/goodbye for Begga probably next week. I do not want to say to much here because there has not yet been anything planned. There is still a lot to do to help before we can plan this. (So please do not ask questions i do not know the answer to yet) Stay posted and I/we will be in touch with everyone.

Thanks Justrose. Will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for any information with regards to a formal wake and say a final goodbye to Begs (even though I really dont want to ). In the meantime, stay strong. You guys are absolute troopers x

I have not known Begga but this whole story is just so sad. I am deeply sorry for the loss of such a young person who obviously was full of positive energy.

Thank you for everybody sharing memories/photos

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I put a candle on my window sill yesterday evening. My friends/neighbours walked past and made a comment like "Christmas is a long way away". I explained why i was burning the candle.

Later on, in the dark, I went out to buy cigarettes. I looked up and saw that the two of them had also lit a candle on their window sills.

I went to the site this morning.... Rob1, Thank you so much for the picture. It is very apppropriate... and captures the essence of Begga.

I must say it is very sobering... As I was standing there.... the street cleaners came by.... I was having some private time with her.... and they joined me.... even for a moment... those that don`t know her... take the time ....

I went by this morning as well, as I was lighting candles and laying out some sunflowers, a woman came up to me and gave me a huge tight hug. She kept saying over and over how sorry she was for our loss.

Thank you Rob for the portrait of Begga, having it there to show the woman, as a focus other than candles, while talking to her about Begga's life as I knew it, helped us both. She'd been there walking her dog shortly after the accident, she wanted to know about what was going to happen, if her family was coming and things like that. Even though she didn't know her, had probably only seen her running or walking with Teckla, she still was very moved by what happened, and heartened to know that Begga was loved here.

The woman I met today wanted me to tell all of Begga's friends how sorry she is for our loss and that she wishes all of us strength in our hearts.

I'm sorry, I know that some wanted pictures, I'd even brought my camera but I just couldn't do it. Thank you Carl for posting those photos.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

It's amazing how people are essentially kind and good; shame it takes something so dreadful to bring it out and I certainly hope that next time I want to say something nasty or bitch, I'll be able take a deep breath and try to think differently about it. Forum members I've had fights with have approached me and offered to bury old hatchets and I certainly agree that now is the time to do it.

And now for that long list of real life people I've been meaning to catch up with but always end up putting off actually seeing, too busy, blah blah. Begga, I'm sorry I didn't take your lead on such things before, I would so much prefer for you to be here to tell me off in person.

Very sad - the accident was horrible without ever thinking it might have been someone one knows.
Though I never came to meet her, unless - does anyone know if she attended the CS-meetings in Basel? Because her picture is familiar to me, and Icelander rings a bell too.

She did attent a couple CS meetings/events but not many. Surprisingly opposite to how she was with her EF friends she had a tendency to be a bit shy at CS events, at least until she warmed up to people. Still, she could light up any room so if she was there i am sure you met her.

As far as I know it is C5 (?).... just a bit bigger than A5 anyway. It's at the HB market today and at the Viadukt Thursday and Friday and at the Rappi Ploughmans Saturday.

A little update about Teckla, she slept right through the night last night without a wimper and stayed in her old bed from Beggas flat (the first night she was crawling all over our bed). She is on my wifes lap in the office now and cannot be left alone for a moment without crying.
