I'm glad to know that Ingi reads this thread. I believe it's eventually a great help to know how much Begga was appreciated on this forum, and not only by her friends in Basel.

I think to her and to her family.

I was in an ancient church yesterday. It was beautiful and quiet.
I lit a few candles too.... 1 for Begga and 1 for the living
with a prayer that they find the strength to carry on.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

Awful, simply awful... and infuriating..I live nearby and used to cycle through that junction most mornings and evenings. I don't miss it.

There's no cycle lane until the lights and turning left onto Luzernerring from Hegenheimerstrasser is a nightmare. You either stay in the right lane and cross in front of cars going right or straight on when the lights change (hence the cycle 'lane' in front of the cars) or get in between the cars before the lights. There's regular heavy traffic, mostly commuters crossing to and from France.. and to top it all there's a constant stream of heavy trucks coming across the 'green border' and from the local quarry and tip. They're invariably going too fast and are too close to the parked cars. The road is a clear candidate for some speed bumps...

My condolences to all who knew Begga.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I tried to relight some of the candles last night but many of the metal covers were skew or lying on the floor; so many candles were full of rain.

I drained the water off, put the covers back on as best I could (they don't fit well; and there seem to be 3 different types, all slightly different sized covers).

I hope the wicks will dry out soon, ready for another attempt.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

In death, Begga has brought people together just as she had in life.

A huge red poppy bloomed this morning in my balcony and I am reminded of her yet again. So bright and beautiful but the petals fall off all too soon. However, the memory of its beauty remains with the observer forever. That certainly also describes you, lovely Viking princess.

Only knew what happened today. Just needed to wish friends and family peace and time to heal. Begga will always be alive through her deeds, ideals and dreams, nobody or nothing can take those away.

Cleaned up and relit.

There was a new candle in a solid glass container with a good cover there last night. Casts a really beautiful light.

Someone had also put up a fresh bunch of flowers.

There was also a bottle of beer: new, unopened!
And hey, why not?
Here's to you, Begga.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

Hi Everyone,

We have planned to have a wake in Basel this Sunday the 17th Basel for all to properly say goodbye and pay their respects to Begga. The official funeral will be in Iceland on Friday so we wanted to wait until after to hold anything here. Please join us at Red Rocks Basel to pay your respects between 2 and 4 pm. The venue will be closed from 2-4 for us to have a private wake. The bar will remain open, however, the memorial we have set up will be removed at 4. You are welcome to stay past 4 to have a drink and to chat with other people in Begga's life however we ask that between 2 and 4 you are respectful and remember that others are paying their respects. If you have any questions please send me a private message.

When: Sunday 17th July, from 2-4pm
Where: Red Rocks Basel, Innere Margarethenstrasse 5
4051 Basle, Switzerland

We are asking everyone who joins to wear something Red in Begga's honor. If you have photos you would like included please message me separately and i wills end you my email address.

Sincerely,
Basel Friends

(I will also post this in a new thread)

Make it an Event.

That way it rises to the top as the 17th approaches, rather than sinking down the list of threads.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

A link from an islandic newspaper was posted on her facebook. it's an article about Teckla.

http://www.pressan.is/frettir/lesafr...a-hundinn-heim

google (bad) translation

Tecla was a child her family Bergthora who died in a car accident in Switzerland in the collection to get the dog home

The collection has begun to dog Teclu to Iceland, but the dog was owned Bergthora Bachmann, who died in a car accident in Switzerland earlier this month. Friends and family say the dog has been like her child.

Freyja Kjartansdóttir, friend Bergthora said collection divided the family of great importance since it costs very much to move the dog world.

She was childless, but that dog was her baby. We know quite a Tecla time it incredibly important and completely turned her life for dogs.

It costs over 300,000 kroner to get the dog home, but her family Bergthora thought it would be much easier to get Teclu home, they thought they could only retrieve the dog,

Freya says, that says it is also difficult for the family to have to stand in great paperwork accompanying this movement, when considering all other things.

Brother Bergthora, Ingi Steinn Bachmann says the family very grateful at this difficult time and this way a whole lot better than they dare to hope:

Collection is quite reasonable and we foresee it to pick up the expense. This is a great support and it is invaluable to see what people are willing to do everything for us. Man was not expecting any great support but I just got lump in the throat when I saw what everyone was willing to help us

Ingi says that states make this much more than they dare to hope, but they have no natural experience of importing a dog.

This is important to us, we really have to get her baby home.

Tecla has lived in vinafólki Bergthora in Switzerland and Ingi said to be extremely well taken care of the dog. He says that although important for the family to get this part of Bergthora world.

300,000 kroner is about 2200 chf, so who's up for that challenge?

You can see that we (collective "we") have donated more than 2200CHF here... The details for people still interested in transferring money are also on that thread.

And I don't think it is as much about how much they need as it is about whether you want to donate or not. Money is tight in Iceland (regardless), so they can use help with all the immediate expenses for sure.

Yes of course, and I did make a contribution, I really was asking if they need anymore ?
