Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I didn't know Begga either, but she sounds and looks a beautiful, amazing person and to lose her life so young and in such a way is a real tragedy.

My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

‎Say not in grief 'she is no more' but live in thankfulness that she was - Hebrew poem

Unfortunately, I didn't get to know Begga personally. Yet, I do remember her from one of the many EF events (maybe a Pub Treasure Hunt? A World Cup Football match?). Very blonde, tall and happy, in an Icelandic traditional dress. I was a fan of her posts and her witty sense of humor, but... she still struck me as a vibrant, sparkly and optimist person. I cannot forget the good energy and joie de vivre she could transmit with only her smile. It was only a brief moment, probably years ago, but enough to make a lasting impression. Begga was very special person, who touched the file of many and will be thoroughly missed. I only wish I had the opportunity to know her better

My thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this most difficult time of loss. May the peace that comes from the memories and shared moments, comfort you now and in the days ahead.

What a sad day.........

RIP Begga. You will certainly be missed.

When I clicked on the link to the Basel Newspaper a "Populär auf Facebook – Privatsphäre" was shown to the right and who was smiling to me from the very first row...? Begga naturally. Tragic.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

When I wrote my thread about EF being the best, this is what I had in mind. People sticking together, supporting each other and being ready to help out even for someone that one never met before.

Today, I am more proud than anytime before to be part of this community. I am physically far but I would never want to leave it.

It is great to see so much love and respect to someone like Begga. She did touched everyone and she will always be a part of this community.

She made a joke recently saying we should organise a KFC Quest to Barcelona because I missed my friends. Crazy and game as she was, I could believe she would have done it!

We will never know...

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

A few weeks after joining EF and still a newbie I was moved and impressed by a text: Begga's 1000 post. I knew from that moment what a great and wonderful personality she is. I never had the honor to meet her but we had a few offline exchanges. I will miss her a lot.

I start to think that God is CEO of Local.heaven and wants his business to be a success. After calling Mark, God surrounded by bad mods needed someone to make EF.heaven a lively and funny place over there....Last friday he decided to take the best among us. RIP Begga.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

For me, although the private words we shared were few, they held impact. Also, Begga was one of the ones who would encourage me to get out if I'd been moody, and encouraging me in other ways as well, just as she was to others in Basel. With her friendly smiles, her cheeky teasing, her very determination and intelligence.

I'd had Teckla over to mine a time and I'd been to hers a time or two to watch her, often with time to chat before Begga was off on whatever adventure for the day.

A couple months ago I'd been to the Mirsky's for dinner and Begga had been having a rough day, she'd gotten some disappointing news at work and came for some cheerful company. Even though her day hadn't been great, she came with a smile and warm words, she told me how much she loved to go to their place as they help pick her up too.

Teckla is a bit wild for my cat, my cat is too curious and tempting for Teckla so Begga and I had just discussed plans for her to spend some more time over at mine, together with Teckla so that my Bonny and her "Tekli" could get to know each other for less stressful / complicated times for us all.

I'm so sad for her passing, gladdened to know though too that her mother had visited recently, as had two of her childhood friends. So, along with the rest of us who loved to see her here, she had a chance to visit with some of her best-loved ones as well. It is painful anyhow, but somehow I take a little heart to know that she'd had some especially lovely times recently.

I'm missing her a lot already, although we didn't see each other daily in person, somehow, some way, always there was some sign of her in my life every day, even if it was silly games on Facebook. ♥

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

Absolutely shocking & heartbreaking news. I've left this thread for last for today thinking I'd have come up with something appropriate. But sadly there is so little we can say in such sad circumstances.

RIP dear Begga. My deepest condolences to her friends & family & her little Tekla.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I actually just shed a tear. Being it so hard to make friends in Switzerland and having no family here I honestly see some on the EF as Family, friends and what not, weird as it may be. she was one of those.....

I am honestly heartbroken by this terrible news.

may she rest in peace, she will be missed

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rushOf quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there.
I did not die.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

It still hasn't sunk in yet.

"Yes, let's catch up soon!" were my last words to you, but 'soon' never came in time.

You always left an impression on whomever you met. Whether it be through your wild ideas, will-to-do or the positive way you handled life's ebbs and flows, your enthusiasm and energy touched so many of us, and left us the better for it.

Such an unexpected loss is tragic and heart-breaking. Moreso when you have lived so fully each minute of the time you had, and would have made so much of any more time that providence might have afforded.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to your family.

Just back from the Razzia club in Zurich where I realised the last time I was there was last summer to watch Germany play / beat England during the Euro games. She was there with her Mother and Brother in a packed room, stealing the show in a lurid dress and devil-may-care attitude.

I forgive you for supporting Germany that day, Beggs.

I ran the bit at the end of the link through Google translate...

Quote:
The woman who died in a traffic accident in Basel, Switzerland, yesterday named Bergthora Bachmann was 31 years old. She was single and childless.
Is this it? She was 15 years younger than I am. I am not very religious but, I feel like reaching out through the aether and saying, "There, there. It's OK now," with a little comforting psychic pat on the head.

I am sorry if it sounds like BS, but nothing else makes sense, and I am not sure if I can type anything else, cause I might not be able to see the screen very well if I keep thinking about what to write.

I am thankful for everyone on this Forum and grateful that I found it and still have access to it even though things like this can cause pain from so far away. Life is for the living so let us, the living, remember that life as well and as long as we can.

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I read a small article about her accident in the french version of 20 minutes.

You usually don't notice it when you read newspapers. But when you know the person, even just a little bit, it becomes so difficult.

I'm still having tears in my eyes and I didn't know her very well, just this forum and a few messages on facebook.

Thinking to her family and intimate friends, pain is indescribable.

edit : does someone left a "comment" on the article (see link on the first post) ? Just to say to people who read it how a nice and friendly
person is Begga ?

Re: Mourning the loss of a loyal and highly respected member

I haven't slept very well, Begga's beautiful face and lovely, witty and caring posts kept creeping into my mind. Life is so fragile. I don't know her family's financial circumstances but the only pro-active thing we can do as a group now for Begga is to help out with her last journey home.

If the financial support isn't needed, we could sponsor a young person from the streets in Begga's name, by donating a years support through the Surprise magazine. They have a fantastic program for those who really want the help but it depends on private sponsorship and as always there are more people in need than there are funds.

This is just a suggestion and could also be moved to a separate thread if deemed more appropriate.

Awww, Begga love!

I think it's also iconic and tells so much about her personality that the last posts of her where in the thread "I got so touched today by a great human reaction".

Guess we are also touched by you and your loveliness.

This is how I remember her on EF.
