Taken on the night I met him, I walked into a room of strangers and left having made good friends.

there is no lovelier a legacy than a place that has helped so many, made so many friendships (and more) and provided a bit of home for those so far away...

I had no idea....

Well, I don't know if an after-life does or does not exist, but just in case...

Mark, you have created a home-away-from-home for me, here on the EF. It may be virtual by nature, but I truly have yet to find anywhere else here in Switzerland where I can find such great conversations, debates, helpful advice and even get my giggle on.

I cannot thank you enough.

Rest in peace, dear... It sounds like you are truly a wonderful soul...

Re: Remembering Mark (EF Founder) - 5 years on

I have fond memories of Mark. His satellite TV FAQ drew me to this forum.

When many users and ex-mods were bashing me up, he actually stood up for me and calmed the mass chaos.
He even gave me a special thread to call my own, to chat about anything and all things. He was very fair and have a good sense of humor and tolerance for my "nonsense".

When Mark departed, there was so much chaos and sorrow that I quite literally packed up and left (for many other reasons too). He was so young, so helpful and so fair.

I still feel sad when I remember how Mark was taken from us. I remember him fondly.

We need more people like Mark. We really do.

To Mark. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Lynn at the very first expat expo ... just a really nice, young and talented guy who did a lot for expats. No wonder everyone was shocked when he died in a tragic diving accident. So unfair, so young.

To the EF team. Though totally shattered by the loss of their friend, they just picked up and carried EF forward, which is a task not to be underestimated in the circumstances. Well done and thankyou.

Although I never met him (I believe I joined EF after he had passed away) I want to thank him for starting this. He must have been a remarkable person.

I'm sure The Architect is still watching EF from somewhere after the Reboot.

or , I can't figure it out.

Let's also not forget Lynn and Lilly. No matter what anyone else felt, Lynn was there every day with Mark until his premature departure from this life.
From what I've read about him here on EF, I would think he'd be happy that EF is still around.

But for some, like myself, Mark was more than just the founder of EF. He was dedicated, thoughtful, meticulous and generous, with very little detail left unattended. He was fun and inspirational to be around.
Looking at my calendar today I couldn't believe this date has swung around again. Six years. I still find it astonishing how many people have been influenced by and benefitted from Mark's creation of this Forum; what a legacy.

Cheers Mark.

Re: Remembering Mark (EF Founder) - 5 years on

I just hopped back on EF after a long break realising it was around the anniversary of Marks death although I am 4 days late

It's a very different place these days but good to see lots of old names still active and benefiting from this forum

7 years.... where does the time go

Re: Remembering Mark (EF Founder) - 5 years on

Thank you for reminding us. Every year, when someone posts about this sad anniversary, i go back and read the original tribute thread (or a good part of it). It helps me remember and be thankful to mark and also put life and the time we have into perspective.

Thank you Mark, for getting EF going. Thank you mods/vets/legends for taking it to a pont where googling 'how' and 'switzerland' brings up a whole page of EF links.

Mark, your efforts have helped so many like me, in so many ways.... thanks. You live... amongst us.... in a new avatar maybe.

Another year passes. 10 years ago the creation of this forum helped my integration here immensely even if the charismatic creator often pulled me up on my posts and told me off

Re: Remembering Mark (EF Founder) - 5 years on

Incredible how time flies.....I remember it still, when the news was posted on here. It was a big shock!

Lovely to see how his legacy lives on, as the EF was the first big forum of this kind AFAIK.

I have tried and failed back in the mid-noughties, to do the same thing with a Yahoo Group......Group now only serves as personal archive and I am happily still contributing here and being grateful as I also got many new friends through the EF and hopefully showed one or the other Ex-Pat, that not all Swissies are hardnosed, xenophobic and backwards

So... THANK YOU MARK
