Fully agree with you HickvonFrick (his entire post is nonsense tbh) but in the end its their forum and they can do whatever arbitrary things with it as they want. Not surprising that a faceless corporation goes with the riskfree approach (to them) and they seem hardly interested anyway.

The only thing you can do with your opinion is scale back your usage of and/or activity on his forum accordingly.
I fully intend to comply with the rules, which are mostly fair.

Re: Update regarding the forum

In my opinion a complete overhaul of the forum was long overdue, there’s been a lot of papering over cracks and patching up going in for a long time now and it wasn’t really working. I certainly didn’t find it a very nice place to visit anymore.

Hopefully the forum will continue to be a useful resource for English speakers in Switzerland with a pleasant atmosphere.

All the best to the moderators and spam deputies in fulfilling their roles.

I can refer you to a good number of posts from a certain member who at least suggested magnetic vaccines, some form of new world order etc., of course always wrapped into the "concerned citizen" tone.

I believe FMF's idea of "tolerance" was of good intention, but at the end turned out to be close to a complete lack of moderation. This is how the Covid threat got out of hand, Covid spread into all sort of other threads and contaminated the entire forum. The cherry on the top for me was the obviously biased banning of some members a few weeks ago, while others could go on to spread their nonsense without any moderation.

Whether this will become better, we will see.
There may be one or two like that but they are vanishingly rare. I'd be happy for them to be acted on.

As for pointing the finger at FMF for undermoderation - Anything that should have been moderated but wasn't is the equal responsibility of all moderators. Yet 4 survive, including one bloke I've never heard of and who has posted twice in 2 years.

Anyway that's my lot. Moving on now.

They closed the forum for an entire week to take the time to read and assess it, so I think it is reasonable to assume that they were able to make their own minds up about what they saw and didn't just 'believe what they read on Reddit'.
It doesn't appear that anything was changed or removed though, so we derive that there was/is nothing wrong with any content after assessment?

So the point of the closure was ..... just to remove some moderators and spam people?

I was kinda expecting to login to a fresh & sanitized forum. But hey.

As you should on private property

I'll return to using the forum as an information resource and for direct questions and NOT a discussion board as discenting opinions are clearly not tolerated by the owners, making discussions useless even if I do happen to agree with the popular opinion.

Unfortunate, but also not unexpected after the drastic action takes last week.

I'm not sure what the criteria was for removing them, but I'm no longer a spam deputy and I've been (mostly) playing nicely with others.

Having said that, I haven't reported spam in ages, because I haven't seen any spam in ages.

I think it helps that new members need to be approved manually. This helps filter out the obviously bogus profiles and the people who open several accounts at once.

To be honest I don't really recognise a lot of the comments in Michael Harolds post above. Of course there has been some personal attacks, as in any forum, of course that's not ok and needs to be cleaned up.

But the idea this is a repository for false information and conspiracy theories I would flatly deny, as someone who is both a pharmaceutical chemist by training and someone who enthusiastically got the vaccine. I'm really REALLY disappointed in the local for believing everything said on Reddit. It simply isn't true, in my opinion.

I've seen things I disagree with, from both directions, but I've not seen anyone say this is George Soros, Bill Gateses doing. I've seen nothing about 5G. I've seen nothing about the new world order. I've seen nothing about metal / magnetic / nanorobots in the vaccine. I could go on.

Shame on you. Reading Reddit without actually doing your homework and reading what was said. Especially as journalists.

Shame on you for axing someone new who did his best and tried to be non partisan and friendly.

We deserve better than you as owners. We really do.
I agree with you 100%.

Re: Update regarding the forum

The real problem with the forum is that it is getting a bit like US politics. Two sides that struggle to positively engage with each other.

There's not nearly as many friendships across that divide as there could be or should be. If you make an effort with people you tend to increasingly see the good in them.

Sometimes it's not about not being actively nasty, it's about trying to be actively pleasant.

I agree 100%.

It's not a black and white divide.

I'm sure we all agree with one another on certain points and disagree on others. I definitely find myself agreeing with certain posters on certain threads and fighting it out bitterly with the same person on another thread at the same time.

Isn't that what good debate is about? It's about the arguments, not the person.

Well that's not another problem than this thread addresses but one and the same. Having a different opinion (even if its polar opposite) does not mean you have to be antagonistic towards each other.

In fact, with your friends you can have the harshest discussions and afterwards have a beer and everything's fine with no hard feelings (I know in general women have a larger problem with this then men which to the women that can do this is particularly annoying). It's separating not liking someone's opinion on a certain subject (or simply not being convinced by the arguments) with not liking a person (two completely different things).

For this there needs to be respect though. Respect through allowing each other to voice their opinion and to listen and let people finish. Not by stating some opinions cannot be addressed because its "misinformation" (says you!) or it hurts people's feelings. That is complete disrespect of the other person and leads other person to not respect you in return. Would you respect someone who doesn't respect YOU enough to allow you to speak your own mind?

This is why the divide in society gets bigger. More and more things are off limits and cannot be said anymore. Leading to people that believe the "official" story to be "shocked" when they even hear the notion and people that aren't allowed to say what they believe anymore to grow resentment to the silent majority silencing and disrespecting them. This leads to the two groups not seeing each other as full people anymore and from there all sorts of scary things happen.

The decision by TheLocal in my opinion is completely in line with this broken trend in society that can only lead to very bad outcomes if its traveled to its logical conclusion.

To those who like things they don't agree with to be silenced ponder this: Silenced opinions do not go away but go in echo chambers and get stronger without any meaningful counter arguments.

Right, you better watch out then, as you were master of bullying and personal attacks and got away with way too much under the second last defrocked Mod crew. I take it that you will behave yourself now

I hope the rules are applied equally and fairly going forward. The current Mod list of 3Wishes, Castro, Mirfield, Roegner seems fair to me. None of them ever gave me trouble, and from what I observed they are not power driven, neither were FMF etc (based on moderating).

I agree, but who on this forum will have the responsibility to decide about true or false information?
I think this is mainly related to the corona-thread (hope nobody uses this as a source of information) but it would be great if incorrect answers to questions of members would also be deleted.
