And out of those there's probably only around 100 active members in terms of posting. A lot of people sign up and simply lurk. Then you've got the spammers who join up, spam, and then get banned. Then you've got the members who were active a while ago, but have subsequently disappeared.
On the majority of forums I've seen, the active membership is only a very small percentage of the actual reported members.
Anyway happy 50,000th member EF |

If you define an "active member" as being one who has made at least one post in the last month, then the current number of active members is around 2,500. |

Just curious, but how are active members defined? Is it 1 post per month, per week?

I presume it means, members actively using the site, but not neccesarily posting . | Quote: | | | | | Just curious, but how are active members defined? Is it 1 post per month, per week? | | | | | |

So around 9,000 have logged in at least once in the last 90 days.
My earlier statistic of 2,500 is for people who actually post, and who have done so in the last 30 days.
I reckon there are about twice as many lurkers as there are people actually posting.
I reckon about 2x to 4x as many again read without ever registering an account.
I think the 50,000 figure includes the spammers and such who have since been banned. There are only around 41,000 non-banned accounts.

How to see how many people have signed up: Under the stats box in the top right corner of the main page, there's "Welcome to our newest member, ...". The link for this new member will contain a number, just like every member: this is the member number (I'm member 6827). The member numbers don't appear to be reused at all, so I would imagine that the 50000 also includes all banned users.
Number 50000 is nicenrh.
Of course, there is a yawning chasm between actual members and active members. But that's the same everywhere.
