online biz / and shop, whats the benifits situation

HI

I have scrolled through many of the posts in this section and have found lots of great information, but I am still a little confused on some things and hope some one can give me a few short sharp answers and tips.

I will become unemployed at the end of March, and have toyed with several ideas of setting up something on my own, I have yet to agree with myself what this should be

anyway, I will register with RAV this month, and will be available to take a new job should one arise, if I was to set up a business online now, how does this affect RAV payments, if it is something I do in my "spare" time and although I would be willing to declare earnings for tax, would this affect my right to my unemployment benifit as I would be available to take up employment? how does it work.
I thought about becoming self employed and opening tiny shop and online but if the takings did not come close to my salary, am I entitled to anything from RAV ??? I would love to give it a go, but can't afford to earn 0 thanks for any pointers

What will happen to your wonderful online business when, with help from RAV, you land a 'proper' job again... ?

I think if you become self employed the RAV will reduce your payment period to 2 - 3 months only as this is the max you can get while self employed, this what i were told when i wanted to start my online agency.

If you declare taxes it will show at some point in their records so you can't lie about it either.

Re: online biz / and shop, whats the benifits situation

thanks, and if after the 2/3 months I gave up, if it did not work out, would my payments carry on in relation to the salary I am now on ?

The online business I am thinking of starting up straight away, is not something that will consume all my time, and really is selling things that I have hoarded over the years and normally would give away, but realise that I could actually make some money and probably have missed out on a lot over the years, and if I land a "proper" job I would be very pleased, and have no problems taking it and would be grateful to RAV.

The renting of office or shop for another type of business is something I have fancied for some years, but it is not easy to enter into, and of course if it works I am pleased to not have to depend on RAV to live, but I also have not got enough money to play around and see if it works out, thats why I ask if there is some kind of start up schemes, breathing space etc.

I don't want to lie, I will declare earnings etc, I want to do it right, but I don't want to lose out for giving something a go, I have worked for years, paid alot of tax and I do not feel scared as the benifits I am entitled to are good when I become unemplyed but I wonder if I try and fail at my own biz, do I loose out on these benifits altogether.

Imho, in the current climate and new RAV laws i would suggest not to go for an online business unless you studied it very well as you'll be risking your un employment benefits and wouldn't be entitled for any if you stopped at some time in the future, maybe use the period you're off the job and demand the RAV to pay you some extra training that would enhance your skills or maybe check for career change, i don't know what is exactly your profession or situation but it's just a personal suggestion.

Better is that you discuss this with your RAV councilor before making any plans or decisions, i'm no expert, just speaking from personal experience.

I presume you mean something like ebay or Ricardo from what you plan to sell ?

This is not a business but a hobby., their's nothing to declare neither to the RAV not tax authorities. You're just disposing of your goods you no longer want.

Mowvich, sometimes persoal experience is the best advice
thanks today, is it still considered a hobby if done through your own website, not ebay etc, it is something that if I feel in any area I am selling there is a market, I may like to expand, but certainly at first it will be my own things I am selling. but I have ideas
