I am an artist looking to open a very small art space in the region of Montreux or Vevey. I am Swiss and have a good fixed revenue but I still need a 'garant' because I have some exsisting debt.

The spaces I am looking at cost around SFR500 to SFR700. I would be looking to sign a contract for mid June this year as before that I am studying full time. I am interested in paying someone a fee to help me by being my garant (I have family but various reasons why they cannot help : you have to live in Switzerland, not be self-employed etc it's very strict!) In addition I could give you a deposit through the bank to assure you.

Alternatively, would welcome someone who wants to come in on this project with me! I am available after mid - june to be present in the gallery and have previous experience. I ideally would show two artists, changing every two months, with regular vernissages / drinks openings ... could be a great creative outlet for someone!

I wrote to you previously that you might find it easier to start an online business using E-bay and Ricardo. Your idea of opening an art gallery and hope for passing trade in Montreux is for me a very lovely but very risky project.

If you are selling well on Ricardo, then yes as you have a market, but until then, I personally would avoid your project - I am very sorry but you must begin to live a realistic life.

I think Ittigen has a good point about paying down your debt first, but as a sometime musician I do feel for you. When I was in a similar situation a few years ago (in the UK) I got around the guarantee when I rented a farm unit as a recording studio by paying a years rent in advance. Maybe you can try a similar thing here rather than paying somebody a deposit to act as a guarantor.
