where is a good place to advertise?

I am an new to EF. Originally from England, I have been living happily in Switzerland now for more than 3 years. I am thinking of starting a manicure and gel nail business from home. Does anyone have any good tips where I can advertise my enterprise i.e. local journals, papers etc? The region would cover cantons Zurich and Schwyz.

Re: where is a good place to advertise?

I would also love to hear what suggestions everyone has. I am also a business owner (personal trainer, offering english group bootcamp classes) and looking for places to advertise (to the expat community)

If you haven't already put a message on the yahoo groups (families in Zürich, expat moms in Zürich) that is always a good place to start. There is alos xpatxchange as well as english classifieds.

I wish you luck with your new business.....

Best...

Re: where is a good place to advertise?

I also have my own business in Schaffhauserplazt in Zürich and I use a mothodology of bodywork to support people in a personal development process.
A good chance to meet and advertise your products to the expats are the expat Expos, which take place in Basel, Zug, Zürich, Luzern and Geneva.
We went in the past in a few of them and we will go to the four events taking place in the German part of Switzerland.
Hope it helps!
Be well

These little weekly books are great, you'll be surprised how many people read them. Not sure which one is relevant for your area. www.blitzinfo.ch

Also get a listing on these:http://www.gate24.ch/en/firmen/Main.aspx

Re: where is a good place to advertise?

Welcome to the forum.

As Uncle Max says, you can pay to advertise here, or get your useful post count to above 10 and advertise for free (for the time being anyway ).

If though you are also targeting local customers (which is what you should be doing) then local newspapers might work although these can be very expensive. If you have an interesting story though you might be able to get those newspapers to write about you.

Re: where is a good place to advertise?

I like to use GoogleAdWords https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...e%26ugl%3Dtrue.
If I look for something (a service or product), I usually look on Google. GoogleAdWords lets you define keywords that are relevant for your business. If anyone enters that keyword on Google, your business will come up at the very top (or one of the first ones if other businesses advertise with the same keyword) or on the side.
The whole thing has its price though. You pay per click on your advertisement (somewhere around 0.20-1.50 CHF per click). So the more people actually look at your website the more you pay. But you can define how much you want to spend on average daily and thereby limit the expenses.
Good luck!

Re: where is a good place to advertise?

Google Adwords might be a little complex and involved for a service biz such as yours. Think of where your most likely customers are going to be and then target those locations. You might also check to see if some local beauty salons will carry a flyer on your product in exchange for a discounted service - such as you offer their hair customers x% off.

Good luck!
