minimum accounting requirements

Hi, I am a sole trader working here in Zurich and am trying to find out what the minimum accounting requirements are for tax return purposes.

i.e. is a cashbook and records of expenses, receipts all that is legally required?
I am worried that this is a bit light on paperwork for Swiss standards!

Tried a lot of the official swiss sites; gruenden, admin.ch, steueramt......
but can't seam to find any info.

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

G.

Re: minimum accounting requirements

Don't forget end-of-year bank account balance and interest statements.

Go to an accounbtant, pay hinm for his time, approx Chf 200.-- ask all the questions you want, find out what you need to know and safe yourself Chf' 1'000's later on.

Believe me, it's hell of a return on a Chf 200.-- investement

Re: minimum accounting requirements

I agree with Today Only. The meetings I've had with my accountant were priceless, and the first consultation was free. After that, I only meet once a quarter to go over my books to ensure I'm expensing things appropriately.

If you want a broader picture of your business such as monthly reports and reconciliations, P&L, accruals etc, you could always use an online or simple business accounting software.

Otherwise as a sole trader, it does seem that even an excel spreadsheet with your monthly intake, less expenses, and bank reconciliation is primarily what's needed.
