Im 27
When I was 10 or so, as that's when I decided what I wanted to do, and where I wanted to go to university.
And I did.
Didn't expect moving here four years out of college, and spending (soon to be) 25 years here, though.
Well I'm almost a decade older and still haven't found ideal position to settle for. I'm used to bathing in the same tub for few years and move on. I would say it all depends on your aspirations, location, future plans and all those family cliches are also valid including your parents notorious reminder about pension and savings for the future. It's your call have fun now and settle down on prospective job later or shop around until you find something prospective. I should say horses of courses and each to their own... Whatever you do remember your good instinct never fails here
Btw: spring time cleanup (career) same thoughts start infesting me as well... It must be seasonal disease...
I've had one major career change since I started working (16 years ago... Holy moly, I feel old now ). I stopped working to be at home with my two children. Next year I will resume studying again and once finished, will go back to work in a third, totally different field.

i know every time spring comes I want to change, but id like to be actually good (the best ) at something and not be a jack of all trades anymore. every time I work myself into a financial hole after i quit......and im sick of that.
What is a career, anyway? Isn't every job different to the previous one?
Well...
When I was 16, I was flipping burgers (when I wasn't being a student).
When I was 20, I was fixing cars and bikes, modding guitars and amps, and working sound (when I wasn't being a student).
When I was 23, I was fixing cars and bikes, modding guitars and amps, and working sound (when I wasn't being a an engineer).
Since I've been 27 (and living in CH) I've been fixing cars and bikes, modding guitars and amps, and working sound (and a lot of that IS my job, I'm the analog guru at our company, and design digital mixing consoles, among other stuff, and use the CNC machines at work (that I programmed) to make parts for my bikes).

How did u decide on CH? Im wondering?
Growing up in the States, I had 2 uncles and 1 aunt who lived here in CH & all moved here in the 80s -now all live in diff countries-...it had never occured to me that I would end up here one day...and now I did!! What a world!
I think life nowadays does sometimes make people change direction career wise.
How many times do you hear of people who hate their jobs but for whatever reason stay put and then regret it in later years.
You are never too late to reinvent yourself - You might then do a job that you find you love - then as Confiscius said - Find a job you love and then you find that you never do a days work in your life (It is something along those lines)

Had no job lined up at graduation, my favorite professor (a Swiss dude) had summer internships available in CH, ended up here for the summer. The company I interned with spent several years trying to get me to come to work for them, which I eventually did.
What is a career, anyway? Isn't every job different to the previous one?
Yeah, but I'd personally define a career as one of two ways, depending on the context:
All the jobs you have over your life i.e. "my career"
The various jobs and/or steps required to get to a certain position/role/spot in life i.e. "my career in consulting"
I was an electrician for about 10 summers (well, since I started at 12, more of an "electrician's helper") for my father's company. Ended up in a sub-foreman sort of role before I left, finished college, and moved into an IT / security role and eventually into an advisory capacity. I'd say that I've had a couple of jobs in construction and a career in infosec, as the last few roles all built on each other to give me the experience I need to do my current job. If I'd been full time on the electrical path, I'd have defined it as two careers.
Currently I'm in a career change, as I have found something in the design/creative field. It's something I always wanted to do, but postponed for "career" reasons I pursued earlier.
At age 10 I wanted to go to a certain ivy league college, because I saw a documentary and the nature scenes looked so beautiful . As I was pretty much quite stubborn and determined about this, I got there. After that things settled more or less.
I personally think the concept of re-defining yourself as no age limit. My mother is in her 70's and thinks about forming an NGO. Also something she wanted to do, but never implemented it properly.
Always wanted to be a car mechanic. Unfortunately it wasnt possible to do that were i come from so i studied the next best thing. Got a good job but had no intention of relocating because its just isnt done. Got this opportunity to drop everything and come to Geneva. Best thing i ever did. My job is similar to the one i was doing before. I love it

Please don't forget that what is spot on right now doesn't necessarily mean that it will be spot on in five, ten, or twenty years. As each person grows and changes through life's cycles, so does that person's idea of what "fits" them perfectly.
My career was great for the four years that I worked after university, then it got shelved in lieu of being an at-home mom. I wouldn't trade those years at school or the few years in the workforce for anything, even as I wouldn't trade the years being at home with my children. Some might say that I wasted my career; I would say that my career merely changed courses.
But really what you should remember is that there is not a right or wrong path! Take your time to decide, and listen both to your head and your heart as well as those whose opinions you respect. A career is a collection of experience/choices, not a one-time decision.
Best of luck to you!

My career started badly, as I wasn't sure what I want. I entered into a company job working on desk. But that used to be very boring for me and I never used to enjoy. Then I realized that I want to get into health care career. But again studying 3 years that to leaving the existing job was very much difficult for me. So one friend of mine suggested to go for online course. She suggested me the following site which consists of all the details about medical lab technician career.http://medicallabtechnicianschool.or...eers-and-jobs/
I took admission in this course and I was able to continue with my job also. I completed the course and now working as a medical lab technician. Though it was very late to start a career, but I'm happy now. I would say that it's never too late to start a new career.
