I am full time employed with a B permit (EU) in Basel.

I like to do some software development as a hobby after hours. I would sell into something similar to the Apple App Store.

My employer will be find with this as it is not in competition to thier business.

Does anybody have a suggestion on how best to go about this.

Do I need to be a registered company?
Do I need to be a sole trader?

Can I infact just conduct this business as a private individual and then add whatever if any income into my end of the year tax declarations?

P.S. I have researched the forum about this but really have not found the correct scenario/fit to be able to give me the answer that I am looking for.

I got the impression that sole trader status is something official here that you have to register? Am I wrong?

Make sure your contract allows you to do it and that there won't be any conflicts. For example, even if you are doing it on your own time, if you are using company equipment (a laptop, an internet connection, a pencil), then most likely it belongs to the company. You can consult an lawyer to be sure.
