Yep, basically they say they don't have anything to support 3rd party plugins, but to keep doing what I'm doing.

Re: What to do with software?

Have you thought about doing different versions for other software like tracktor etc....

Also another route to think about is somehow get it to work with DAW's.......i think the abletonlive market would be bigger than the serato one.

As it is a niche market working out a way that it can work for all setups would be the way forward.

Also having extra outputs so that in big clubs/festivals, the djs can choose what they project onto the dance floor or large screen behind them.

Getting a big name behind it would be useful as well.......someone like Joel Zimmerman would be good.

Do you have a name for your system?

CYRUS LIGHT AND PROJECTION SYSTEM or CLAPS for short would be cool...........i want 5% if you use it.

Also more importantly we can say Cyrus has the clap

cheers

If it is unique enough you could try applying for a patent. Our team managed to get a patent pending granted in the UK for a website that did something unique.
Can you do that even after getting released into the wild?
Shortly: NO!!!! Art. 52(1) EPC http://www.epo.org/law-practice/lega...10/e/ar52.html

Yes - as long as there isn't a patent already granted/pending for a similar idea.

I've been thinking a lot about all of these, for now it's serato, but with this guy I'm talking too, another system will be involved. I've aimed to keep the underlying software modular, so bits can be plugged in easily, and so it could be adapted for other systems, so long as I can find hooks. Ableton is definitely a possibility, there's much can be done with MIDI.

I've also tried to keep the setup easy, it can be adapted for many DJ systems. What is displayed is (fairly) easy to configure, adding new visuals
just involves dropping a new file in a directory, of course, the visuals need to be written. It's been suggested by a few people that they'd pay to have visuals created.

I'm also thinking of how it could be installed in clubs and so on

I've not thought of a name, I guess I really should. Right now I'm looking at how to compile the code into an application.

Great thing you did here, for sure it's a lot of work.

This is what i would actually suggest, compile and package the main application and make the modules as an available extensions and plugins.

If I do move forward, this is going to turn into some sort of informal company for now, while we see if what we want is possible (I think it is, though niche market), is there anything I should worry about?
my advice would be to agree and formalise everything upfront. it doesn't take long and everyone knows where they stand.
