Just moved to Zurich area & looking to Publish an online English Magazine

Dear All,
Myself, My wife & son, Have just recently relocated Kanton Zurich (Urban Turbenthal) ! We basically moved here because my wife took a position as a Fashion Design Director for a company in Zurich doing Corporate Fashion last year!
I myself come from a Fashion P.R , Media & Advertising background & after seeing how difficult it is to find an English Speaking Job in the sector & also the fact that my son does not have a place in our kindergrippe till mid September, I have come to the conclusion that perhaps I might be better of doing something on my own.
My Idea is to create a monthly well rounded Fashion & Lifestyle magazine for both Men & Women. When I say well rounded I mean that I would like the magazine to have a little bit of everything... Fashion, Lifestyle, Interior Design, Art, Food & Travel, Local & International News / Celebrity Gossip, Luxury goods & even perhaps a Financial News section as there are a lot of English speaking expats working in this field in here in Switzerland.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has any feedback.

Thanks & Warm Regards,
Paul Jovanov

Dear All,
I first want to say Thank you to everyone for there thoughts! This is exactly what I need to get a better idea of what you as reader would like to see in such a magazine as well as those who who like to contribute!

I want you all to know that I am not walking into this new venture blind. We are already off to a great start as i am very lucky to have a very good friend of mine helping me with this. My friend is & has been a chief editor for an global Printed & Online magazine for almost 14 years based in France! His magazine is of course of a different genre (it is the most successful & longest running magazine of its kind http://face-full.com/) however the concept of how it is built & runs stays the same.

I am looking for writers & contributors in most area's of the magazine ( especially a content writer for the economy section & also for somebody who has experience here in Switzerland helping with the Advertising! For those of you that have sent me private messages & that already have said you would like to contribute i will contact you within the next days;-)

I am thinking of making the content of the Magazine 60 % Swiss and the other 40 % International. However regarding Luxury goods try to focus more on Swiss Products (as I Know the Asian market is willing to spend a lot on high quality Swiss goods)

To begin with the magazine would be available online also having an app however if successful after 2 years would look at going print perhaps only a bi yearly special print edition!

Once again.. Thank You & please continue to give your thoughts.
Warm Regards,
Paul Jovanov

Is this primarily going to be online? Or will you be publishing?

well as i have mentioned this magazine is directed towards English speaking expats living in Switzerland. 60 % of the content would be Swiss related and the remaining 40% international with articles aimed at non Swiss giving a non Swiss view.

Initially for the 1st year it would be only a monthly online magazine with an app. If the response is strong perhaps I would go on to publish a printed Bi Annual special edition!

Whom do you see as your readers? How do you plan to make money (please don't say "subscriptions," because that's basically unrealistic).

My target group is as the following

1.English Multinational M/F speakers living in Switzerland looking for something different.

2.People who are perhaps interested in Switzerland & what it has to offer.

3. I would really like to try to tap into the Asian market with this.. As I know from living through out Asia for many years, the people whom I know source a lot of goods & products from Switzerland and are willing to Pay top dollar good quality products made in Switzerland. Everything from Wine, Fashion, Jewellery, ect

The Online Magazine would be free, revenue would be made through advertising on the website and also through the full advertising pages in the Magazine which would be approx 25% of the entire magazine. With the Magazine being free I feel that I would attract a larger readership which in return would enable the magazine to ask for a higher advertising rate.

I am looking at also publishing a bi annual S/S and F/W printed edition. This would not be for free & have a slightly higher advertising page price rate!

Welcome to Zurich!

I once edited for a small art magazine. Please send me a private-message if you ever find yourself in need of an editor. I may also be able to contribute some small articles -- particularly anything regarding exhibit or concert reviews (my genre of preference is experimental or ambient music).

I wish you the very best with your endeavors! Please keep us tuned.

Hi!

I don't know how far you have gotten with this however i would be very VERY interested in being involved if you need a writer. I think it is agreat idea!

I am regularly getting involved with 'start up' magazines, such as BreakIntoParis magazine which then seem to fall flat.

I am dying to really get my teeth into some magazine writing long term.

I would be able to contribute to anything related to local culture, music, spirituality, health and literature for example...

Please do send me a message if you want to speak to me further!
