Just love big shopping Malls ... for about 1 week or 2 a year. Strangely enough, the High Cross in Leicester is great - fab John Lewis, Debenhams, Waterstones, Apple Store, and all the usual - have had my fun for the year - all shopped out, and can't wait to go back to Neuchatel or Pontarlier, for individual stores, atmosphere, etc.

I am totally allergic to big Malls in the run up to Christmas though - that crappy synthesised americanized Christmas music and shopping frenzy is the one thing in life that truly brings me close to break down.
Thats why I buy my gifts now instead of waiting during Christmas.

You'd better never go to Thailand during Christmas then. They go completly nuts with it. Santa Claus in a swimming costume, with diving mask and snorkel sitting in a plastic pool next to a Buddhist temple and underlined by the threadful nonstop played "Jingle Bells".

Re: Big Shopping Malls in Switzerland

It seems that the concept of a mall is not having a big success in Basel. Last time I went to Stücki both Migros and Saturn reduced their size to a half, and that's probably not because of businesses being prosperous. Nevertheless they are trying hard to get people shop there with promotions and attractions.

Re: Big Shopping Malls in Switzerland

We have one here in Vevey which is located in the center of town.
It's called the Manor Centre commercial next to the rotary or turnabout I think it's called in Britain. But it is like a real mall in the U.S., with only about 25 stores.

Re: Big Shopping Malls in Switzerland

I've never been to a cold mall in the U.S and I grew up in Mass,
just lucky I guess. Of course you do warm up quick when there is a shooting spree.

Re: Big Shopping Malls in Switzerland

I must admit I haven't hung out in malls since I was a teenager, they are great if your from a cold place. I'm sure the best malls are in Canada as is everything. Except the shooters, and I don't mean hunters. Franchement!

Re: Big Shopping Malls in Switzerland

Sorry for the groan, I've never done it before. I thought it could be exciting. But 31 minutes. That's just enough time to find the movie theater. There it is cold, that's why I moved to California. Ahh, you mean cold in the summer. One extreme or the other, are you surprised?
