Importing garments

Hello,

I tried to search the forum, but didnt get much details on importing. I was thinking of importing say 500 garments from India to do a private sale. Technically, I know I probably need a license. Is there anyway to workaround it?

Re: Importing garments

I don't see why you need a licence... But you will have to pay import duty and VAT (Swiss "Mehrwertsteuer"). There are some threads here concerning this, which you should be able to find if you use the search function.

Re: Importing garments

When importing garments, you may need a formal certificate of origin.

India may be considered a 3rd world country, which may mean that you do not need to pay any duties on that import.

That should keep your Google skills busy for a while.

Oh, and Lufthansa does have dirt cheap air freight rates if you handle your own shipment.

Hi Vishi, I can deal with it for you, just mail me what you are trying to do and we can take it from there.

To import goods you do not need a license at all but you will need to make a statement of origin. To sell the goods is a different story of course... Oh and to make it clear it does depend on what goods you want to import but basically non-silk garments are not a problem. Shoes etc can be...

Hi Richard,

I am also located in Basel, Switzerland and am planning to import garments from India and sell them privately here among friends and family. Do you think that should be a problem if I order them? Or do I also need to produce a statement of origin for my goods since I do not have a trade license?

Grateful if you could help me on the same too. Please PM me.

Many thanks.
Priya

Re: Importing garments

does anybody know how to tax the items bought outside switzerland if I didn't pay tax at the border? Lets say, I bought 10 cotton bags and they didn't check it at the border. I've got a bill from the provider in Spain. Then I sell them here. When I do my tax report, will they ask for the Swiss tax or how does it work?

thanks for any advice
