| | Web site with CMS to DIY in Switzerland?
Hi everyone,
I want to create a web site without having to program, and I had a closer look at Joomla which looks quite powerful. My second alternative is to use online CMS systems like Squarespace or Wix.
The problem with Joomla is that I can't find anyone that offers a hosted, installed and ready to use Joomla, just subscribe and start using.
My website is to be very local and so I would prefer to have a local Swiss hosting for better responsiveness.
Does anyone know of a Swiss hosting provider that is offering a joomla environment ready to go with a single click of the mouse?
If not are there also any local providers similar to Squarespace or Wix?
Thanks!

Just use wordpress. You can host it yourself, find a theme you like (I recommend a premium one) and then edit it slightly to fit what you want. Joomla is very time consuming if you just want to start.
PM me if you need some help.

If you want to do things yourself, go with Wordpress. Joomla is powerful and everything, but it's not the "It just works" CMS that it claims to be. You need some degree of web-programming knowledge to actually get it to work.
As for hosting, go with an international one. They're much more technologically advanced and offer better hosting plans. Get a Swiss domain if you want the .ch, but host elsewhere.
And if you need help, I just so happen to be a freelance web design sort of person... occasionally. Seems to be what I'm doing these days, anyways.

If you have a bit of time and patience, DIY! It's quite easy - you don't need to be webdesigner to do it. Google is your friend.
Some more or less specific steps you could take:
1) buy domain at name.com
2) find great template on themeforest.net
3) find international hosting as suggested. example here: http://lifehacker.com/5911651/five-b...ting-companies
4) setup mysql database on hosting (just follow the steps) and set ftp account.
5) install wordpress and theme you want.
6) add content
I even managed to setup woocommerce on my website with 3 working languages. and it's satisfying to do something on your own.

Crikey, just go to blogger.com and you have a CMS there waiting for you. Free!
You can point your own domain at it and you can remove the blogger bar with a little editing. Not hard.
No sql or installing anything needed.

Most decent web hosts have something like Softaculous to allow you to install Wordpress with almost a single click - again you don't need to do anything with sql yourself

To directly answer your question, while it is not a local host, Startlogic.com offers a lot for a fairly low price. It has an install script for Joomla, so all you have to do it install it from their control panel and start playing. The other comments are correct, it does take some time to configure to how you want it, but within a few hours you can have a functional website with your own logo on it. It has other CMS apps on it, all easy to install and play with with, so if you find one too troublesome, you can uninstall it and move on to another. I'm using Joomla for my website just for kicks. I have little content on it, but I wanted to play around.
Good luck!

I can say that 1&1 performs well in Switzerland. I have a site hosted there and the response/page load times are good enough (below three seconds). Joomla also supported.

A word of caution: never ever use 1&1. They are an awful, money sucking company, who have zero interest in after sales support.
Question: what's your goal with the website? If you're planning on making money with it, then a professional website can be worth the investment.
As others have said, Wordpress is good and will probably suite your needs.

I use 1and1 since 2006 here in the UK.
I cannot complain about their service.
I use their templates for my 2 websites. Google ranking is good and I no longer use addwords. Getting enough free enquiries now days.
Dear SFORelo,
I cannot find 1and1 in Switzerland, I'm I wrong? Or can I just pay for my package here in the UK and have a website in Switzerland?
Will be nice to hear of similar companies like 1and1 based in Switzerland where I can use their own web templates and create the website on my own.
