Accounting Software - BANANA

Hi all,

Anybody has any experience with Banana Accounting? It seems to offer all the features required by an SME.

I would be very happy to get feedback from someone regularly using it for some lenght of time.

Thx in advance for all replies.

SVA

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

Do you have any specific questions?

If you are used to accounting software, Banana is an affordable option and offers many features. If you are new to accounting software, you will probably hate Banana as much as any other accounting software, the usability of such software is a nightmare …

I outsourced my accounting to Run my Accounts some time ago. They do accounting and provide you with an always up-to-date accounting in the cloud, well, on their servers in Stäfa, Switzerland.

Are you happy with RMA? Do they speak English? Can they handle all accounting including tax returns, social security, VAT returns and everything else?

Well pretty much any basic accounting system should be able to output those type of reports...

You might want to take a look at GnuCash, I've never used it but it seems to cover all the basis and there is even a book available on it.

Well hopefully after the Christmas period, you will get a better response...

Well I've not used it but I had a quick look at the user's manual and my feeling is that it is very well geared to someone who understand accounting, but maybe not so easy for other users.

If you are not someone with a good knowledge of accounting, then I'd suggest you should look for a system that is cash or bank account centric as they tend to be easier to work with.

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

well... Banana seem to have a mode 'Income and Expense', which is basically NOT double entry. I am hoping to get some user experiences on this.

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

I am not a qualified accountant. However, I have been using Banana for several years, both for my business as well as for a few s/m companies for which I have been doing the accounting. Considering the purchase price of the software and the user-friendly structure I can only say that I am still very pleased with Banana and would not change to anything else.

The system offers 2 types of accounting :
  • the « Income/Expense » method – a very basic accounting structure, still perfectly acceptable in Switzerland for a small organisation
    and
  • the so called « double entry » method – the standard method of accounting, complying with both Swiss and international standard principles.
Both methods provide for recording of VAT. I believe Banana offers full documentation in English.
I have been submitting print-outs from Banana to the tax authorities for quite some time and have never encountered any problems. Tax returns are different in each canton and you will most probably need to fill in the forms which you receive from your tax office and support the return with print-outs (balance sheet – P&L) from the Banana system.
I am fully satisfied with this program and can recommend it to any small organisation

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

Many thanks Zug99,

I have one basic question. Does the Income / Expense method generate Balance Sheet, P&L etc meant as supporting docs to the returns for SARL? If so, can you briefly point me to the right page in the documentation?

I tried looking through the Banana documentation, it does not state so clearly. Basically I'm not capable of double entry accounting.

Greatly appreciate any help

sva

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

the answer to your question is no.
go to:
Documentation
Cash book and Income & Expense accounting

I believe that this method will provide adequate information for a SARL for submission to the tax authorities.

mny thx, Zug.

However, don't the tax authorities insist on a Balance Sheet? How does one do that?

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

yes, this would be one way of doing it

but in my canton the tax authorities send a special form to be filled in by those small companies which cannot provide standard balance sheet and P/L

I use and have used Banana for years. I think it is perfect and price-wise it is good value.
PM me if you want to discuss it in detail.

Re: Accounting Software - BANANA

Hi,

Refreshing the topic.

Is there any user on this forum who is well skilled with banana software and willing to help?
I registered tiny company (part time job) in January and need to start preparing the accounting to be ready before next tax declaration.

It's a wheel building company, invoices for parts from manufacturers and invoices for wheels sold to end customers. Couple of parts on stock bought this year, some of them won't be sold this year so need to be properly declared for next year.
Turnover of course below 100k CHF so not a VAT payer

Thanks
Tomasz
