Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

I'm cofounder of a new Bitcoin business that is looking to relocate to Switzerland for its popularity as the financial capital of the world and taxation laws.

Although it is small, how is the Bitcoin presence in Switzerland? Has anyone heard much about it?

Would you accept it for your business? (0%-1% fees for instant transfer to CHF)

I'm curious to hear the voice of the Swiss people on the subject.

Hope you realize that the "voice" you are going to "hear" from this forum is not so much Swiss but more British, American, Aussie, and Kiwi, among others.

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

Heh, well I guess my reputation/title precedes me. Being new I did not know this. I would still love any input as I have just begun researching the matter.

A British voice here!

Some threads as per this search on the forum for "Bitcoins" should be a good starting point for you.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your quest!

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

You will have a tough time convincing anyone other than IT geeks to use bitcoins in Switzerland. Not only does Switzerland have a strong stable national currency, the Swiss Franc (as you surely know), which makes using a volatile speculative online currency a bad alternative, but Switzerland is also one of the very few countries worldwide that does have an established alternative community currency that is quite commonly used among Swiss SMEs: the WIR

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

Switzerland does have a growing Bitcoin community and there are a lot of Bitcoin-based businesses started or are starting up here.

National Bitcoin Association founded last year:
http://bitcoinassociation.ch/

In-Person Exchanges:
https://bitcoinsuisse.ch/
http://btcsuisse.ch/

Online Exchanges:
https://www.swisscex.com
https://www.ecurex.com/
http://www.bitcoin.ch/ (launching later this year)

Crowd Funding:
https://cryptostocks.com

and even Mining Hardware:
http://bitmine.ch/
http://tecnoinfo.ch/

Coinmap has something like 80 businesses listed:
http://coinmap.org/

As Switzerland is surrounded by the Euro many businesses are already comfortable dealing with multiple currencies and they are also somewhat more used to multiple payment networks/methods. The Swiss can be very conservative when it comes to money, but assuming Bitcoin continues to grow in market cap, stability, and adoption I think Switzerland would be a great location.

There is a dentist in Basel who accepts them, I won't mention his name as he keeps spamming the forum.

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

I thought I recalled hearing via a FOAF that Zug was supposed to become the "cryptocurrency valley" of Switzerland and was aggressively courting companies that wished to open in der Schweiz.. Anyone have anything to add to that? A few quick googles didn't seem to turn anything up..

I read something similar a while back but can't recall where. Found it interesting.

Will drill down the Goog when more time's available.

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

Most Swiss are only just getting into having credit cards; 15+ years ago you'd struggle to find a shop that would accept them, but they're slowly becoming more acceptable. Bitcoins may become popular in about 30 years' time. Change doesn't happen quickly here.

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

I think bitcoin will not be accepted so soon, but is a good lesson for something similar that may work in the near future

Re: Who is familiar with Bitcoins?

I think I remember hearing on the radio that the only Bitcoin ATM in CH has been removed. Bitcoin is to volatile to be used as an actual currency. Another Tulip bubble?
