Yep they did... I was chatting to the manager/owner at AB1 a few weeks ago.. they've taken over the 'Gimmicks' studio in Allschwil.. I got the impression that if he makes the beer in Switzerland it'll be a lot easier to sell it in Switzerland.
I was talking to him last month too, they were brewing in St Louis while their new brewery in Basel was being built, the hassle they had importing each batch from France was driving him nuts, I think they'll still be brewing a bit over the border until the new brewery is fully up to speed.

Their Cascade Amber Ale is amazing BTW.

Re: Let's build a brewery

Well nope, not as originally intended. Thanks for asking.

First I started a Verein with around 25 friends and was brewing in a hobby room with them. It was fun, but in the end too time consuming for a hobby. After that I met some professional brewer colleagues and volounteered with them some. One colleauge I met while ordering some fermenters together. In the end I gave him my fermenters in exchange for letting me gypsy brew in his brewery. I am now registered with the cantonal health inspector and have a permit to sell beer. I really only brew small batches and sell directly to friends and sometimes sponsor beer for the Dorffest.

Pumping new life into an old thread...

@surfmase... How difficult was this process (both the health inspector registration and the permitting)? Any tips?

Re: Let's build a brewery

I've been giving some serious thought to starting up a little something-something in Canton Schaffhausen. My current challenge is understanding how to register as a brewer in Switzerland (so I can sell). If anyone has any insight they'd like to share, I'd be most appreciative.
