Permission for 30+ chairs in a restaurant

Hi All,
We have bought a Restaurant, however it currently has 30 seats inside and 20 outside. From where do we need to get permission to increase the number of seats ?

Thx for help.

Same place that granted you permission to open a food business in the first place?

Fire Department, Landlord, but normally it's based on the capacity, and the fire escape routes. And delivery plan for the route that allows deliveries to enter the property and not double cross on the way out. It dictates building and capacity.

I would first make sure you're filling those seats before you spend money re-modelling the place...

In the event that you are unaware of this, Canton Bern requires that the operator of a restaurant obtain a Wirtpatent (restaurant operator's license):

http://www.wirtepatent.ch/

Wirtpatent courses can be taken online although I have not found that they are available in English.

I wish you good luck with your enterprise!

My point was that someone who obtains a Wirtpatent would normally learn about legal aspects of operating a restaurant. This is one of the areas covered when studying for the Wirtpatent:

"Rechtslehre und kantonales Gastgewerbegesetz" (Legal and cantonal gastro regulations)

That's for the online course, the normal one is more like 10k.

(at least it is in Ticino)
