self employed or setting up a company?

I am an EU citizen, (almost 50) I am coming into my 5th year of self employment's a sole trader here (gross turnover between 90 and 110 k (CH) yearly)

Would it be better to try to set up a company so I could employ myself?

I have very little work expenses to set against my income.

I am thinking about the pension and social benefits later on and also should my circumstances change( arbeistlosgeld etc)

Does any kind soul have any good advice to offer?

Thank you in advance.

Re: self employed or setting up a company?

Hi there
not really sure about all this...thing is if you set up own ltd you wont get unemployment cover as you employ yourself. check out these people inconcor.com. no ad, they were just really helpful with all that sort of stuff and I'm happy with them.
Good luck

Incorrect. There are a few more hoops to jump through but that is about it.

RAV will (if you can find someone who takes the time) be able to explain your benefits situation.
My take is that it is much better to be employed by someone, even on a part-time or zero hours basis as they contribute to the AHV payments. As a sole trader, I think you are free to pay your own contributions and /or to take out private insurance. Most Swiss people do not rely on the basic AHV, but rather the second pillar for a retirement income -there are probably tax advantages in paying any surplus income into a scheme rather than investing it elsewhere.
I am not sure what the up-side of a small company is other than liability issues. It is definitely expensive to set up and offsetting expenses, such as the rent for an office at home is, I hope myself, possible as a sole trader -the tax situation is so local it is difficult to get/give general advice.
I am interested to know how you get on.

Re: self employed or setting up a company?

Setting up a company (I assume Ltd GmbH) you will have a little bit more paperwork.

Yes you can have more flexibility in employing yourself in terms of pension fund etc. But with that turnover I assume this flexibility is not a major criteria.

With Ltd you will not carry a personal liabiliy. This is an advantage depending on type of your business.
