Absolutely and I am of course willing to discuss and negotiate. I am how ever not desperate and I believe in my idea so I am not willing to take any deal/investment if it means compromising my position in the business.

If you're putting in Chf 60k and the investor needs to put in Chf 200k, then the investor will certainly want some control over his money....

That's what the shareholder agreement is for. Rule of thumb as an angel investor (ie not a professional doing it as their job) is to put at most 10% of your capital into startup investments, split into different startups to mitigate risk. As a 'good' investor in early stage companies, roughly 1 in 50 startups in your portfolio will be a 'star' and generate >60% of your profits.

Put that way, investors aren't (or shouldn't be) too bothered about control at this stage (that comes later if you are doing well) - they simply don't have time to be that involved in a project which represents less than 0.2% of their total wealth and has a 1 in 50 shot of realising significant returns.

I guess a lot depends on what type of startup it is, what sort of business

You could also borrow money from the bank and avoid any other shareholders.

I could, but I am new in Switzerland and it's a brand new business and I dont own anything here so I am not the most attractive candidate for lenders unfortunately. But yes borrowing is an option, im currently exploring all alternatives.

You can borrow on the crowd funding / crowd lending platform I shared earlier. As long as you have a clean credit history and are offering a reasonable interest you should be able to borrow a decent amount to give you a larger cash start.

Re not putting as much cash in as a main investor to keep a majority share. It depends on the value of the idea, your track record, how much work you have already put in and if you're willing to take a smaller salary for the first year or 2. I know someone who put a great business plan together, did over a year of heavy background work to get the idea ready to launch, he put zero cash in and got 30% of the equity.

If he had also put in 50,000 he would have been a majority shareholder but with only about 30% of the initial cash. So your idea right now is completely reasonable.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking why use one in Switzerland or why is there one (or some) in Switzerland?

i was under the impression that angellist is only available to US and EU startups (for fund raising directly through the platform).

I did ask you by private mail to provide some details, some figures, some projections, you want capital, you're going to have to show me where my ROI is going to be, as i can quite easily piss Chf 200k up the wall on a new car too !

Hi Junjin. Brilliant, we'll take 2 million. How much do we have to send you via Western Union for the upfront expenses before you release the cash?

Re: Best way to find investment in Zurich/Switzerland

OP, are you willing to share some basic info about your idea—which industry is it in, what elements of your background (qualifications, experience, etc.) make you ideally qualified to receive substantial financial backing, which sector will you operate in (retail, manufacturing, busking on the street...)?

Re: Best way to find investment in Zurich/Switzerland

The investment is for a new style of fitness studio/gym in Zurich. I've been working in the fitness industry for 6 years now, in London and now in Zurich since January.

I think its a very exciting market here is Zurich as there is still so much opportunity, it's one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

I worked with a start up gym in London and currently working as a consultant for a start up gym in Zurich. I've seen a gap in the market, I know there is demand and I think I've got what it takes to make it very successful

good luck. if you can secure a good location at a reasonable rent, then you shouldn't have any problem with getting funding.
