Voices that want to give up on cash all together are not new.
Inventing these things now will encourage more people to come off cash.
Paying with cards is a comfortable and good idea.
Giving up on cash all together is not.
Many countries already can't back up their cash with gold anymore. The other important thing to consider is the glass citizen.

But if you start that discussion, this thread is going downhill fast. | The following 2 users would like to thank Corbets for this useful post: | |

I just got those bells ringing while studying such inventions which no doubt have fascinating sides too.
Okay, back to twint ....

Today did a middle age guy at the gas station use his smart watch to pay in front of me. I guess it's Twint? Anyway... I am sure he thinks its hip, but its just one step away from using your apple watch to make phone calls... holding your watch to the payment terminal makes you look like a real twint.

I love it.
I have only used it to pay for purchases once. Thats not the main draw, for me though.
It is a massively convenient way to exchange money. Me and the wife have joint credit cards as well as our own individual credit cards. for the joint credit card, i pay it off and she just twints me the money from her account. we used to have to log in to ebanking to arrange the payment every time, and then wait until the following day, but with twint, its immediate. credit card is paid off in full every time.
For those asking, you can use non-UBS accounts with it, but the amount of money that can be transferred is limited to 300fr a day.
Occasionally, at work, ill forget to load my payment card for lunch. i can ask a colleague to pay for me, and reimburse them the money while were still walking to the restaurant. its perfect for little things like that.
Since UBS took over, they use the same security apparatus as UBS Ebanking, and you can have an entirely seperate 6-digit key for it. seems pretty secure.
Im a fan.

I used Twint on Friday to pay a friend and used his old phone number...
It was sent successfully and I found the guy on WhatsApp and sent him a message (and requested the money back on Twint).
The guy then blocked my number...
I contacted UBS already. Does anyone know if anything can be done in this case?

yeah, Twint is cool.
Easiest way to transfer money without giving out all your bank account info. You just need the phone number and full name, nothing else.
I use it to buy/sell on EF, Tutti, and to pay my cleaning lady, for example.

I use it where ever its accepted. Its linked to my credit card and has the coop card stored. So I dont need to fish out 2 cards, all done with one swipe of phone. Online payment at Digitec or Microspot is a breeze as well without giving out my card details or waiting for payment slips.
I like it, even when I am using half its functions (not used the money transfer option).
Give it a try.

I've been using for:
- paying retail (Coop). It is slightly more cumbersome than by contactless credit card but this is balanced out slightly with the supercard details being automatically transferred;
- paying stuff online (desktop), i.e. scanning the QR Code. I find this is more convenient than paying by credit card;
- paying stuff online (mobile), only did this once yet but selecting payment by Twint prompted the Twint App to open. Worked very seemlessly (much easier than trying to tap in a credit card number).
- transferring money peer-to-peer.
My hope is that in the future the Twint QR-Code will be printed on your restaurant invoice so that you can simply scan this without having to wait for the waiter to bring a wallet or the credit card scanner... would cut down on waiting for the waiter.

There is two methods twint technically works:
1. Bluetooth
2. QR Code
I have started using it and my quote is terrible, it works terrible on bluetooth, it connects badly if at all. I prefer using a contactless chip card to twint.
A benefit on the other side is the use on onlineshops (only swiss ones) where you can pay using a QR Code.
This works very fine and you do not have to enter CreditCard details.

It's not just a bit slower than Apple pay, it's several times slower and that difference is simply unacceptable for me. Needless to say it does not work abroad.

Search brought me here! So for 2020....2021....
Is Twint a must-have these days as a small merchant selling stuff online?
Imagine I am selling sex toys online. Currently, I have credit card and Paypal payment option. Should I add Twint too?
Twint plugin for WooCommerce will cost me CHF99 yearly.

I don’t think anyone who has Twint doesn’t have a credit card.
I can’t see a small business generating enough additional profit tp cover a hundred francs. In fact I’m not certain it would generate any additional business.
Perhaps if you did a promotion offering free wa-wa balls to Twint users?

If that is your target audience then perhaps. I just didn’t connect sex toys with youngsters.
