Want something 3d printed?

Just putting this out there, I have a couple of 3d printers currently sitting idle, if you want anything 3d printed drop me a PM, examples of work in my signature.

ever wanted a life sized R2? or wearable Halo armour? or how about an Iron Man outfit? Or even a Robocop?

I'm taking commissions now!

if you can find a file for it :) worth noting 3d printing isn't cheap, or quick

Just out of interest, purely for the sake of argument, with no obligation, how much for a full-size Stormtrooper outfit? :D

very roughly, just printed, so you'd need to sand and paint, printed at 100% - so not scaled to your body, around 600chf.

You inspired me.

How to make the design files suitable for printing? Also, how strong is the material? Is it possible to make an arm holding ~2kg?

bigblue2 07.09.2018 15:06

Re: Want something 3d printed?

depends what file format your designs are in :) win10 has 3d builder for free which is pretty good at simple designs / converting and there are plenty of other free programs out there.

Strength wise - sure, you can print an arm that will take 2kg easy enough, with 3d printing its all down to the settings you use, nice thick walls with plenty of shells and decent infill will be strong, but it will also take a long time to print and take a lot of filament, and of course be heavy. You can also reinforce prints with resin or fiberglass

Which machines do you use?

Anything to recommend to a hobbyist, wanting to explore a bit before throwing thousands into the "business"?`:)

Re: Want something 3d printed?

creality cr10's, but unless you know what you're doing, or know someone who does, and your also quite technically / mechanically minded then they probably aren't for you.

They do an beginners printer

https://www.banggood.com/Ender-Ender...EaAiZyEALw_wcB

which is small but also cheap

thats a Roomba 560? Have you ever printed the crown gear from the side brush motor for it? mine stripped and I completely failed to source a replacement but being unable to throw out things that might be fixed one day I kept it, I think it's this file

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2817590

it was too expensive to get one printed I was quoted 80chf when a new complete assembly was 30chf

I've tried to 3d print The Artichoke Lamp Shade several times on my Lulzbot Mini (I print the modular version because of build volume limitations). But I'm having adhesion issues after ~ 5 hrs in... Could your printers handle it?

I think so, what material are you using? odd that you're having issues so far into the print when you have a heated bed

I'm using PLA. As it's in my apartment I don't use anything stinky (e.g. ABS).

Yup, I use standard settings. From the top of my head, it's something like a ~200C head, 60C bed, and 150 um layers.

Dashed decent of you, but you set me off on an ebay hunt again and I found an original, you should offer them on ebay, they are rarer than unicorn sweat and a shame to bin a working motor for the sake of a single gear

Re: Want something 3d printed?

BigBlue2, have you, or anyone else for that matter learnt enough MCAD themselves to print some decent 3D stuff?

As a beginner, how long and steep would the learning curve be?
(I appreciate this is all a bit "How long is a piece of string but, for example, a droid's head with a few apertures).

I've done a lot of CAD with various packages but it's all ECAD and not much MCAD.

Are there any cheap or free MCAD packages on which to have a go and which one can export files suitable for 3D printing?

Thanks!

bigblue2 26.09.2018 15:46

Re: Want something 3d printed?

sorry no idea about mcad, most file types can be converted easily to 3d printer files, .obj and .stl are the most popular printer compatible file types.

there are flexible filaments, really depends what you need, for rubber type stuff you'd usually print a mold then use what ever you like after.

Flexible filaments, I would have to see a sample, do you have the software to create the 3d image?
