Opening an Etsy- Shop

Heya EFlers-

I've only been a quiet reader so far and I've used the search engine but could not come up with any help for me.

I'm here on a B Ausweis and have a 100% Job. In my freetime I like to paint and now people have been asking to buy my paintings - leading to me wanting to open an Etsy- Store.

My question is: Do I have to do anything? Aside from opening it, I mean. Regarding my taxes, AHV, etc? Do I have to hand in any forms and open an actual business for this?

I looked around and could not find any answers.

Help is greatly appreciated. Have a lovely day everyone!

Its not a business, but a craft buying and selling platform. So unless you earn a significant amount through it, I would debate even declaring income from it. But if you are worried about the extra income you receive, then just tally up the yearly additional amount on your tax decleration.

A friend just opened one in germany and had to register a small business, so I got a bit stressed out and started googling.

Re: Opening an Etsy- Shop

Hi there!

I know this message was from a quite a long time ago, but I have been googling about this subject and this was the only thing I found about it and from what I asked in Zürich and at least there one does not need to register until one makes a certain amount of money but unfortunately I asked in Schaffhausen and they have no clue, not at the Finanzamt, not in the Rathaus... I know... weird...
I was wondering how it went by you. Did you have to register or anything before selling on Etsy?

Hoping you are still around and looking forward to your reply.
Thanks

Re: Opening an Etsy- Shop

I think the challenge with opening an Etsy Shop from Switzerland is that the markets outside Switzerland are difficult to reach because customers will be charged import duty/VAT if you send the product to them from Switzerland

Hi Saskia,

Was just wondering if you managed to open your Etsy shop and what is your experience? If you could share a bit of your experience that would be great. I was thinking about opening an Etsy shop as well, I am not sure how to start. Was googling a bit if there is a tax-free amount in Switzerland, below which you do not need to set-up your sole-proprietorship..Didn't find a sufficient information so far

Hello,

This is a very interesting thread to me. I am exactly looking to do the same: open a shop on Etsy and send a bit of my artwork. I was asking here and there if there is any tax-free amount determining the level below which you are not obliged to set up any sole-proprietorship or prepare any sophisticated tax statements.
I am not sure if my local municipality office would be helpful with such question. Any information would be much appreciated!
