Building a new Company

Hello everyone,

I have just moved to Switzerland six months ago to join my spouse.
Previously, I lived in the U.S (California) and I am more familiar with the U.S Immigration and still have to learn more how immigration really works here in Switzerland, especially for entrepreneurs.

I am in process of starting my own company here in Switzerland. Currently, I am working on the IT industry.

I hold a B-Permit since I am married to a C-Permit holder.

Questions:
Can I start my own company and run it in parallel with my current job. (have gotten approval from the company to avoid any contract issues).
Do I need to apply for a separate B-Permit to start my own company.
How long is the process to register with the business with the canton etc
I highly appreciate your help on this matter.

Welcome to the forum.

Firstly, I would check your US tax filing obligations so you know what they are.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/inte...-living-abroad

Secondly, check with your bank if they will even give you a business account. Americans carry a taint nowadays re bank accounts outside of the US. You will need to sign a W-9 form to allow the bank to send the account details to the IRS. Most cantonal banks won't have anything to do with Americans nowadays.

Thank you for the note.

Well, I am not an American.
I am a non-EU citizen that have lived and worked in the U.S so I guess things are a bit different in this case.

Depends, do you still have a greencard? If so, the above applies

No, I dont have a greencard even though I do qualify for one.

Bottom line, seems like I should be able to build my business and run it on parallel with my current job.

How does the B-permit works on such case?
Is there any limitation of how working more than 40 hrs per/week?

Thank you in advance for your help

Don't you know that in Switzerland there's no limit? One has to be very careful what he/she signs for as the normal job contract can state 40, 42 (most commonly seen), 45, 50, ... working hours per week
