What's PMI?

Oh, and thanks for the well wishes.
Project Management Institute

Google PMI Zürich and you‘ll see what they‘re up to.

If you‘re just interested in networking in ZH IT look at the meetup groups.

Blockchain, internet of things, etc used to have some groups. That‘s a way in. Then there‘s the impact hub and startup work places.

Re: Networking for IT freelancers?

Here's my take on things:

I've been living in Switzerland for 15 years. I held a full time job in IT until they closed the offices iin Lausanne n 2018. I've been unemployed almost constantly (3 month contract) ever since.i speak French to advanced intermediate level and English (obviously) i have a PMP, a CISSP amd and MCSE. I'm about to start my own business.

The problem for you is that unless you have a unique selling point, you're really going to be at the bottom of the recruiters list. Plenty of French and German speakers crossing the border daily, and plenty like me who already live here and have work permits. Competition for jobs is very high because of the high wages.

Plenty of cyber security conferences take place around Zurich and Geneva areas, Google is your friend.

Good luck

Re: Networking for IT freelancers?

Read an article where these sites were mentioned:

upwork.com
freelancer-schweiz.ch
freelancer.com

maybe someone has experiences with one of them?

Thanks for the info and the well wishes. I'm surprised to hear that cybersecurity is not valued more, considering everything.

I'm not looking for a job or particularly enthusiastic of going through recruiters, but since you mentioned it - is there really any benefit to visiting Switzerland if I'm going to go through a recruiter? I figured they'd just spam me on LinkendId anyway.

Re: Networking for IT freelancers?

@JonP and @sbacic seem to me to be in two different markets.

At least until he decided to start his own business, JonP was a contractor. He lives and works in Switzerland and, to find a job, would be competing with others who are already here, or who commute from neighbouring countries.

Sbacic, on the other hand, does not want to live in Switzerland at all. He does not want to move here, nor to be part of those competing on the local Swiss market for jobs that are offered here in Switzerland. He is looking for a way (network, agency?) to be that person, living abroad, to whom the jobs from Switzerland are outsourced.

As I have a friend who recently asked me the same question, I'd be interested to know the answer, too.
