Stained glass, any recommendations?

I am seeking (on behalf of a friend who i am helping on a renovation project) to have a small stained glass window panel made (small transom window to be fitted above an interior door, art deco floral pattern, coloured). He has a rough idea of the design and has some photos of similar pieces whose style he would like emulated. Can anybody recommend any craftsmen/women or skilled hobbyists who could do that? Any idea of prices?

There are a few, and they don't look cheap...

I would check Etsy for stained glass, select local to Switzerland and check out their work. You can count on the good ones taking commissions.

I have. I haven't looked at the Uk yet though.

I've browsed websites of various people in Germany and Holland and they seem to be mostly into the super artistic stuff, or high end stuff like huge windows for a church, whereas what i'm looking for is more simple so I was actually looking for somebody who is good at that and wouldn't snort at being asked to do something so trivial.

How about the closest art school? Vitrage is popular.

A metal art teacher would know how to do this, even at 9-11 grade, regular school.

I do this as a hobby in the UK. Takes a surprisingly long time. And the glass itself can be extremely pricey for the more interesting pieces. As is the lead.

Can you post a pic of an example and some idea of size required?

Regards

Ian

Same here. Did a course at night class many moons ago (1983-84) and met my first fiance whilst stretching lead in the garden.

Please make sure that you are being quoted for actual stained glass with lead channels between each piece, and not for painted glass with a lead strip pattern.

Re: Stained glass, any recommendations?

We have a stained glass decoration that was damaged in a hail storm and this guy made the repairs. I am pretty sure he can help you.

He is based in the canton of Neuchatel.
