Tax- Business cost deduction question?

Example-

In 2020 income CHF100, deductible business costs CHF 20 = Profit of CHF80

In 2021 income CHF50, deductible business costs CHF40 = Profit of CHF10

Can I use outgoing business cost of CHF40 from 2021 against 2020 tax return to reduce my taxable income? Obviously, I won't use it again in 2021 tax return

Thanks!

Re: Tax- Business cost deduction question?

When I checked this you had the option to pick either the invoice date or the payment date, but not any other date.

(Sadly that was for only for ZH - my canton SG is more restrictive and only accepts the invoice date for tax purposes, which gives less tax optimisation options for stuff coming in December).

NB I'm absolutely not a tax expert, that's just what I interpreted from reading the tax code.

Yes, I remember reading something similar in one of the letters I got from SVA Zurich. Until now, they have never asked me for the actual bills as proof. What a waste of hard-earned money, all this tax stuff

It depends on the timing and the accounting method agreed with Revenue authorities.

If you are using the accruals method then no, if the receipts method then it depends on when you paid and the type of expense. You canít just change to suit the times.

Assuming you have a one man company or can ensure you are the last one standing in a wind down, then pay your pension forward to create a tax loss.
