| | now or Never business seeker
Hello,
I am searching for a business to purchase.
Some quick background: married to a Swiss, 3 children under 5, lived in CH for 4 years. I have worked (in CH) in hotels/restaurants, and as an English teacher. I have an Master's in Business Administration from a US university. My French is not to good...but fair. Outgoing and friendly person.
Now or Never:
I would like to own/operate a business here in Switzerland .
Anyone know where a good place to look for businesses for sale is?
I would like to remain in the french part of CH, preferably vaud or valais.
If I cant find a way to make an income with a business (or a great new job!) in CH I will have to move back to the States with the family and start anew there.
Thanks for any advice or direction! |

You might want to get in touch with the Chambers of Commerce in the area(s) you would operate your business, they usually provide useful information and networking opportunities. http://www.cci.ch/
I haven't looked in Switzerland but when I was a MBA student in France a few years ago we had a course focusing on taking over an existing business organized by the local chamber of commerce. They had a specific section in place to take care of transferring existing businesses to new owners. Given the demographics, a lot of small and medium businesses will be available in the next years as their owners seek retirement, and it is a less risky option than starting your own from scratch.
Good luck !
Alain

This may not help you at all but my husband and I can't figure out why there isn't a Victoria Secret here and it might be something you could franchise... We also wished there were places like jamba juice where you could get a fresh smoothie. There both things we've pondered for awhile thinking they'd sell well here...
But sorry, I don't have a business to sell you ;-))

You could start with a website to sell Swiss properties to English Speaking people arriving in to Switzerland, for £10,000 you can have swisspropertyfor sale dot co dot uk and some very good contacts in the French side of the country, on the site you can sell, rent or trade in commercial properties.
If that doesnt suit you look through the site some of the properties come with existing lease holders, buildig a commercial and residential property portfolio seems to be far safer here than anywhere else in the world.
Good luck with what ever you decide to do

Real estate ? With the situation in the UK housing & finance markets ?
This would have been a good idea a few years ago, not anymore.

I do recall the gentleman is moving to Switzerland, the markets here and the markets in the uk are two different kettles of fish, the Swiss market is far more stable and more legislated and a much safer bet.....as to finance it is still readily available here at excellant rates as long as your credit history is sound.

Which is exactly the point, as your proposal is to provide services to english speaking foreigners.
The customers would come from a country where the housing & stock market are crashing, hence having little cash available. Being foreigners with no assets or credit history in Switzerland would also make it more difficult for them to secure loans from Swiss banks.

Edit: Oh right. We put that word on the list last time you advertised surreptitiously.
