Where to Build a Computer

I would like to build a computer, or have someone build it for me. Where can I get get everything? I need three big screens, since I am a trader. Any help would be apreciated. I am also thinking about an Aaple since they are superior hardware, and to run Windows on it.

Re: Where to Build a Computer

My 2 favourite Pc companies:
www.digitec.ch
http://www.stegcomputer.ch/shop.asp
Both have very good prices and digitec has an excellent online shop and service!
They assemble their own brand of computers too, so up to you what parts you want in there. And digitec has free delivery!
In the past I've always configured and built my own computers, but now they have such a wide range of configurations that I can't be bothered anymore.
I wouldn't be so sure about running Windows on an Apple, the opposite seems to be the case:

Apple hardware is overpriced and relatively slow in direct comparison.
Don't want to set off an argument with Apple-boys though.

Re: Where to Build a Computer

I built a nice machine a few months ago with parts that I got for a really good price from Steg. They have local stores so you don't even have to wait for stuff to get shipped to you.

Re: Where to Build a Computer

You can also consider buying components from www.conrad.ch they have a wide range and quite competitive pricing.

The Apple hardware is not necessarily superior - don't forget Apple and PC's now both use Intel CPU's. Apple did have the edge on styling but you can buy some very snazzy cases to build your own PC, Lian Li, Antec and Coolermaster offer some good designs, if you want something more upmarket then have a look at one of my favourites, Silverstone

Re: Where to Build a Computer

If you want a stylish and small PC, then go with a Shuttle:

I was thinking about a Mac mini, but they are totally under-powered, and Apple refuse to release a powerful desktop that is not an all-in-one (who needs one of those when you already have a nice 24" monitor?) or huge and exorbitantly priced. I therefore went with building up my own Shuttle, and did it for much less than the cost of a Mac mini; I ended up with a computer that was more powerful in every way than the Mac mini.

Re: Where to Build a Computer

You can get everything at Digitec. Or let our resident computer expert take care of it.

I wouldn't buy an Apple computer if you intend to exclusively run Windows on it because it's often a bit expensive. The only exception I'd make if you desire a 3 years warranty and have made bad experiences with every major hardware producer out there.

(ps. And I wouldn't even dream about using a "Hackintosh" in a professional environment)

Re: Where to Build a Computer

I can highly recommend Brack for reliability, pricing and speed of delivery. If you order by 3pm on a workday, the order arrives the next morning.

A MacPro with Parallels seems like a good choice too. Here's a good guide on buying Apple products.

Re: Where to Build a Computer

I bought a hardware only PC from Steg. Very reasonably priced, and the graphics card already supports two monitors. I'm sure they'll be able to do something to your spec.

re: hardware quality - only Apple make Apples. PC hardware components have many suppliers, all competing with each other...

If you are a trader, then just go and buy something outlandishly expensive, and pay for it with profits from credit default obligations
