Freelance journalism whilst on holiday in Switzerland - tax/ authority issues?

Basically, I'm going to Switzerland this summer and might be able to get some more freelance journalism, writing for a UK market (newspapers, magazines etc hopefully.)

However, I won't really know if I'm going to be doing much of this till I get there, since it depends on how much I pitch and whether anything comes of my pitching. It's also HIGHLY unlikely I'll be earning much, probably will only do a few articles even if I'm there all summer. I'm beginning freelancing so it's difficult to get editors to say yes anyway, and I'm also reasonably lazy - if I don't need to work that much then I'd rather have less money and more leisure time.

So, do I need to tell the Swiss authorities? And what do I tell them? Oh, I 'might' be doing some freelance journalism whilst on holiday in Switzerland?

Over here (England), because I've only done a little amount so far, the tax office doesn't care. They basically told me to keep track of invoices, and so long as it doesn't go over their small amount (something like £6000 I think), they don't really care.

I read this:

'Immigration/visa requirements
EC/EFTA nationals taking up a job in Switzerland may stay in Switzerland without a residence permit for foreign nationals for three months in a calendar year. However, they are obliged to register with the authorities before they arrive.' http://www.rebgasse.com/reblog/?page_id=59

Is this still right in the case of freelance journalism?

I see absolutely no reason why you should tell anyone about it. How is anyone ever going to find out what you're writing on your notebook or if you make money with it ?
Just come here, enjoy your time and sell a few articles to the UK if you can.

Re: Freelance journalism whilst on holiday in Switzerland - tax/ authority issues?

Haha, that's exactly what my parents said! I'm very honest though and really like to check I'm not doing anything illegal because I don't want to be kicked out/ have scary authority people chasing after me!

The most it will be is a few articles, like I've said, nothing full-time or earning a lot.

On another thread I heard this, '

Quote:

My partner is Swiss and he told me there is a minimum amount a year that you can make without claiming.

You can make 2000 francs per year without having to register as "selbständig".'

- so I guess as long as it's that I should be fine? Are you aware of this, and do you reckon it would apply for maybe English conversation classes or someything?

I don't really need the money, but would be nice to have a bit more and would give me some focus whilst the Swiss is out at work.

See my other post for more info Teaching English in or near Fribourg - suggestions please?
