Anyone know what department I would go if I am interested in getting either a temporary or permanent street vendor's license in Zurich...yes for food.? Yes probably the Gemeindehaus, but department?

You might have figured this out yourself by now, but just in case... matters like these are usually handled by the Gewerbepolizei.

I know I ask alot of maybe trivial questions, but you haven't seen me in the Gemeindehaus asking these questions while the people there are franticly searching thru their english/german dictionaries, and calling their best friends' aunts' to put them on the phone to ask what I want. I see the dreaded fear in their eyes every time I come in.

Also, while we are remotely on the subject, in Michigan, where I am from, if you go into any library they have a reference book that can tell you the public info/the name and contact address of who owns every piece of land, they normally do this in each town, for each town, rather then the whole state. Does anyone know if there is such a source book in and for Zurich? Even if it is in german? I am interested in commercial property, vacant or with a building but may have a large parking or the like they may be interested in renting a portion of their property for part or all of the year. Does this exist?

I think the property / land registry is called Grundbuch. People at the Bauamt ( building office ) of your commune might also help you out further.

I am not actually in Zurich, but I figure if I choose to proceed on this, I'll want the highest foot traffic as possible, and I can't think of many places that top Zurich day and night any time of the year. But thanks. I'll look that up for Zurich.
