Business accounting systems/guides/software in English?

I am looking for Tax/payroll/general accounts software, books, guides, leaflets, anything in English. Does any of this exist? If so which is best and where should I look?

Feel free to add links for online calculators in English for business owners.

Cheers

Re: Business accounting systems/guides/software in English?

Are you looking for something enterprise level like SAP, etc, or small business like Quickbooks/Quicken?

I have a friend with a small business who uses Quickbooks http://quickbooks.intuit.com/ and TurboTax - but I believe TurboTax is US centric. He is very happy with Quickbooks - it doesn't have terribly robust internal controls, so be sure you know who's making entries, but it's easy enough to use and set up.

If enterprise level and it's SAP, I can talk to some of my team and see if I can help you, and for an enterprise level tax solution, look to something like Corptax - http://www.corptax.com/Pages/profess...-software.aspx.

Thanks for this. I'm just looking for guides and methods to do simple things myself. My accountant is basically a cash sinkhole and I'm sure I can familiarise myself with certain basics to avoid this.

I'd love an English langauge tax handbook for Switzerland/Zurich if this exists.

If you're running it all yourself, I can also recommend QuickBooks.

Be sure you extract from your accountant a Wikipedia reference-linkChart_of_accounts of how he does salary/deductions etc, as they're v different from anything I ever saw before I came here , so that like for like can be managed.

I used an excellent system in the UK that was perfect for sole traders/small businesses and was called 'Mind your own Business.'

Yeah I know that one, the UK has it all of course. I'm downloading Aletheia's suggestion free at the minute and will try and figure it out and post back.

how many invoices do you usually send monthly and how many salaries do you pay?

I'm issuing less than 10 invoices in a month, and my accountant does most of the book keeping for me. I pay between CHF 400 and 600 every quarter, and I'm quite happy with that.

I've heard of Bananas (not for Mac), am looking into Loops (for Mac, but only in German afaiaa) and have used iCash by MaxProg (nothing to do with the iPhone) successfully in the past. The first two are specifically suitable for businesses in Switzerland, iCash is more basic, but was cheap to install - and all languages.

www.gruenden.ch is a good source for all that kind of information in Zurich. Initially aimed at small start-up businesses, but is always useful. They're friendly and give out loads of advice on the phone too.
