I realize there have been many threads similar, but I've dug through a ton of the old threads about self-employment and a couple things still weren't clear to me.

For a while now I've been helping people finding apartments as a side job, charging a small commission for my work. I'd like to make it a bit more official now, advertise on annonce pages, etc.

At what point do I need to register as self-employed? I've made less than 300chf to date. Is there some monetary threshold? I really would prefer not to be reported .

I am a holder of B Permit due to my spouse's work here. I could easily partner with someone who is Swiss if it were necessary. Could I base my business in the US? Ideas?

Advise please! .

one other note in case it's not obvious-- this endeavor is not intended to be a primary income.

Re: Start-up: Self-Employment Necessary?

If you only made CHF300, then it is not only not worth registering to be self employed, it hardly seems worth working.

If you are not registered, you will not be asked for social payments (pension /unemployment) and your clients may be asked for this. You will also need to pay tax and claim expenses if your income becomes worthwhile.

Search for 'freelancing' on EF it's all explained...
