How to get details on latest trends in IVF?

I am planning to go back to India and start a infertility clinic (yes, an infertility clinic in the 2nd most populated country... know that sounds crazy, but I think it is a good idea). Off late, there are lot of problems amongst the IT engineers and other high paying-high stress workers in conceiving a baby, probably because of the bad life style, stress and pollution.

I have heard that such medical sciencce related technology is far superior in Europa, especially in Germany and Switzerland. How do I get more info on this, maybe even meet some gynecs and understand what is happening in this area here?

To give a background, I am a medical electronics engineer, my sister is a gynecologist in India, with a well established practice and a small hospital of her own.

Any ideas...?

I would read or subscribe to the latest medical journals on the subject. Perhaps that is something though for your sister to do, being in that field.

I suggest you start by checking Wikipedia's page on IVF. It mentions the most recent techniques being used in Europe vs. North America. It also lists scientific papers. If you want to check the latest scientific papers on the subject try "Web of Science" and/or "PubMed". Web of Science is not free, but PubMed is. Good Luck!

Re: How to get details on latest trends in IVF?

I think you will need to get a lot more experts on board (endocrinologists, docs that deal with genetics, labs, etc.). It takes more than a med tech and Ob/Gyn to have a clinic. Unless you want to be a part of already existing network, for a few years, then break off to do your own. That's what I would do if I was a beginner. And, aside of technology, I would read up on licensing and legislature, associations and institutions you have to be a member of in India in order to do biz in medical field. To deal with infertility, one has to be a lot more than just experienced Ob/Gyn. I would also contact all possible infertility institutions in Europe, and see their success rates. Then, contact the best to see if you can get some wisdom of them, technology, training, they usually post links, too. Contact WHO is there would be funds available (grants, etc.) to do what you want to do in India, you might be successful in getting funding if you orientate some of your activities helping disadvantaged population. Good luck.

How do I say this without being rude? How do you want to start a venture on something you know nothing about! Infertility is a delicate subject and I would not go to someone who knows nothing about it, research first then think about it...

Re: How to get details on latest trends in IVF?

I'm also sharing the opinion that infertility is a rather complex subject. Besides the need of a high professional level of knowledge and expertise, it also includes a high understanding of human psychology.

From your post, I think you have rather the business in mind in your project than the real inner dedication that is required in this field.

Many rich are going to India for IVF. In case a surrogate is needed, Indian clinics often go for the poor and a handful dollars. For the surrogate of course, because the couples from the West or elsewhere outside of India pay a few thousands for the dream of a own baby.

I personally would never ever get involve in such a business, knowing how the poor are treated. Why poor? Because well off Indians would never ever even think of being a surrogate for some Westerners.

If a surrogate is not needed, I do not see the point of going abroad, because insemination is paid by the health insurance. IVF is not, but if you think that the process is quite long and can go over years, I do not really see why someone flies like 9 hours from say Zurich to India and pays the flight for two, plus hotel. In the end you might pay more than a treatment in the country you live.

Or if it's too costly one can also go to Spain, where this process is cheaper than in Switzerland. Plus you have the same high standard.

By the way: the key success in IVF is a biologist with a high reputation.

The way you asked the questions in your post, shows a bit of a lack of key knowledge. If your sister is a Ob/Gyn than sure she must know the background infos. Plus she can easily contact a renowned specialist or get a training session.

There are many professional organizations in the field of fertility.

And yes: successful doctors must pass exams to get certified by those.

Re: How to get details on latest trends in IVF?

Hi,
are you sure you need IVF? There are other treatments such as the IUI.
I've got this webpage since some months ago. It did help me a bit to understand more about the subject:
www.ivf-worldwide.com
You also have these two:
http://79.125.109.44/topics/diagnost...ion-16820.html
I am going to the IUI next May at London. I tried once but i wasn't pregnant. I hope this time will go better.
Don't worry about not knowing, I was like you at the very begining three years ago. Asking and reading is the best way to find what you need.
I am also trying to start my own business at the same time which sounds weird but since I grow up in a family where mothers works until they deliver and they go bak to work after maternity leave I feel quite confident.
Good luck.

Re: How to get details on latest trends in IVF?

OP wants to start his own business. He does not need a treatment.

But you are right, if you need one yourself research and to educate yourself properly is best.

Good luck
