Self employed questions

Dear all,

I know that there are various other threads for this topic and I read most of them, but I have some questions that you might be able to help me with.

I am currently on chomage (unemployment) in VD canton, and I am thinking of starting my own company to be registered in Cyprus only. Now my questions are the following:

1. If I want to have a self-employed status, how do I do this? I would like to avoid setting up another company in Switzerland.

2. Could I work for my company in Cyprus, while living in Switzerland?

3. What about tax payments, etc? How would that work?

4. Would I still be able to continue with chomage until my company starts brining more money?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Self employed questions

1. Go to the local commune and register status change and complete the AVS forms for self employment.
2. Yes¨
3. You are taxed on your income which is also what you pay AVS on. If it is too low they will look at what is going in and out of your bank account.
4. There are start-up schemes but that you would need to discuss with ORP (RAV).

Re: Self employed questions

I am in the same boat. I have a company in Chile--a English-language school, which also has online course, and when I move to Geneva in May I would like to set up shop, so to speak. The idea would be to sell online courses through my company website. I still don´t know if I would have process the payment through my website and then receive payment from my company in Chile. Does anyone know how that would work? Repeat: I would sell online courses through my company´s website and then be paid a fee from my company in Chile. How would I be taxed?

Me three! At the moment I am reactivating my Einzelperson company here in CH and up to now the RAV have been extremely helpful. When I remember what it was like in Germany. Brrrrrrr!

Re: Self employed questions

Contact your AVS office directly or through your commune. Set yourself up as an Independant Consutlant by describing your activity. You will get officially registered if you can provide them with 2 contracts (or invoices) for 2 companies or customers registered in Switzerland, even if they operate elsewhere. That is a sine-qua-non conditions. AVS will then ask you to estimate your gains and you will pay yr social charges for the first year on your estimate. You should consult with a Fiduciaire (sort of chartered accountant) to prepare yur end-of-year business results at the end of the 1st year of activity.
Good luck!

Your Treuhand will have the relevant forms & templates and advise on the process.

By the way, posting the same question on different threads is a sure way of being ignored!
