City/Town: Rapperswil
Event Type: Other
Location: Rappi Bier Factory, Schönbodenstrass 3
Price: Free entry

Get your diaries out and pencil in now the first of the infamous Rappi Bier Factory all day Ploughmans lunches.

If you haven't been before, the Rappi Bier Factory brews just about the best beer in Switzerland (and officially the best Black Bier in the whole of Europe).

The British Cheese Centre will bring along up to 15 farm made British Cheeses to complete the ultimate Ploughmans Lunch: cheese with salad, pickle, chutney, crusty bread etc. The spectacular Chilli Pickled Eggs may also make a comeback and there will no doubt be some sweet offering too.

Price of the Ploughmans lunch is CHF 19.00 but you can come just for the beer or a small cheese tasting plate. Beer and cheese is of course on sale to take home.

Here's the thread from the first one last year, only 60 signed up from here but we had over 100 in all, this year we will be better prepared for the rush. There's also some great photos of the mid summer one here that did get rather wet...... but we did enjoy ourselves anyway. (thanks weejeem for the pics)

I'm posting 2 more for this summer on the 9th July and 17th September, it's possible that we may be able to fit another one in along the way but I have rather a major project to finish this year, still, these Ploughmans should provide some interesting material for it!

Did I.... did I scare you away?
Absolutely not (were you trying to?). I would just back out of my friends' plans, but I fear it would badly ruffle some feathers.

did u buy that apple farm then? (my way of asking if u r in CH?) ;-)
Yes, I'm here, but not permanently (yet). I just finished a whirlwind week showing my sister around, and now can relax and enjoy a 2nd week as something other than a tourist ... with two employment interviews dropped into the schedule(!).

Don't get me wrong... There is genuine interest on this forum by the ladies for pole dancing fitness... In the interests of economy, logistics and fair play, my suggestion was sincere and genuine.

Perhaps you were thinking aerial hoops would be better ?
It's amazing your mind reading ability

Hopefully grumpy sees this so he doesn't have to worry about dessert and of course, wanted to let you all know too...

I am going to make my homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch for tomorrow as a sweet treat after the cheese. A nice little extra to look forward to.

Hmmm... looking at the map that GG supplied, has anyone been to that Kinderzoo?

May be something worthwhile to check out and make a day of it, particularly for those with kids?
Yes, but not recently, rather back in 1963. We at the "advanced" age of 13 did enjoy it

DB Rappi is hardly the big city
If "DB" speaks about "THE big city" he of course means "that small town there"

The lunch rush is over but we still have a big crowd enjoying the beer and sunshine. Plenty of cheeses and salad to last till 7 as well

Thanks Grumpy for some fine cheeses. I'm a little bit homesick now after the Lancashires. Still, we had a lovely afternoon sampling the beers and cheeses. A big thanks too to the cookie baker - they were very, very good!!! Hopefully see you all again in July.

Thanks to my 3 gorgeous waitresses today for making it a goodun (and very efficient at that, no waiting today that I could see ), and thanks to all who came. The weather once again was smiling for us. Next one is in July!

No, no, no. Thank you grumpy! It was a good day for sure. With over 80 people in attendance, it really did go seamlessly didn't it? Thanks to all for coming out and I really enjoyed meeting many new faces. Hope to see at least some of you again in July!

Thank you Grumpy and your helpers!

It was a beautiful day, the cheeses were delicious, the cookies were addicting, the company was wonderful and the beers (from what I heard) were yummy too.
Unfortunately I had to leave just when someone started playing some wonderful tunes on the guitar.

I look forwards to July's event!

Re: The first Rappi Bier Ploughmans of 2011

I'm so gutted I missed this!! For some reason I thought it was today - I know, the invite clearly says 28th and I even put in on my calendar for Saturday...but somehow it got confused in my mind.

Hope a great day was had by all and will definitely be there for the July event!

Good idea, next time I will also serve some small Ploughmans Cheese Rolls with strong onions and chutney......

The next one is on the 9th July and we're hoping that the weather will be as kind to us as it was on Saturday. And here's a few pics that have been sent to me today, if anyone has any more, feel free to post!
