City/Town: Rapperswil
Event Type: Other
Location: Rappi Bier Factory, Schönbodenstrass 3
Price: Free entry

.... and here is the second of the infamous Rappi Bier Factory all day Ploughmans lunches for this year.

If you haven't been before, the Rappi Bier Factory brews just about the best beer in Switzerland (and officially the best Black Bier in the whole of Europe).

The British Cheese Centre will bring along up to 15 farm made British Cheeses to complete the ultimate Ploughmans Lunch, cheese with salad, pickle, chutney, crusty bread etc. The spectacular Chilli Pickled Eggs may also make a comeback and there will no doubt be some sweet offering too.

Price of the lunch is CHF 19.00 but you can come just for the beer or a small cheese tasting plate. Beer and cheese is of course on sale to take home.

Here's the thread from the first one last year, only 60 signed up from here but we had over 100 in all, this year we will be better prepared for the rush. There's also some great photos of the mid summer one here that did get rather wet...... but we did enjoy ourselves anyway. (thanks weejeem for the pics)

There are 2 more for this summer on the 28th May and 17th September, I wonder how many of you will go for the Hat Trick?

Re: The second Rappi Bier Ploughmans of 2011

Is anyone driving from Zug or Cham by any chance (and willing to give me and a small, quiet Labrador a lift)? The 3 change of trains plus one bus to Rapperswil looks so daunting - wish I had Begga's courage and determination.

Argus, if you go through Zürich, you'll only have one train change to get to Rapperswil. When finding connections on the sbb.ch website, enter "Zürich" in the "Via" option.

You can take the bus or, just as easy, you can walk to the brewery. It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station. Just make sure you have a good map and remember at the end, you'll walk through a parking lot and past a few buildings before you finally reach the brewery. That's what through me off the first time I walked there.

Hope you gather some courage and come to the event. One never knows the friends you'll make or the people you'll meet that day.

This is my ship (actually, I have 12 )

No volcanoes, unfortunately. Creative bakers could possibly adapt the Matterhorn.

We have a taker, by the way. Anbody else? Let me know by 12 today. Here's an easy recipe if you don't have a favourite. Halloween Butter Cookies (Scroll down the article for English translation).

I'm coming from Cham (Holzhäusern, actually) but only one way, as I then continue on from Zurich. It would take care of part of the trip?

I think most trains from Zug stop at Thalwil where you can get a train to Pfaefikon and then a train over the dam to Rapperswil (Mirfileld thinks Jona is nearer but I've never thought about that). Either way, it's only 15 or 20 minutes walk from BH. The brewery BTW is directly behind the new art gallery on the road out of Rapperswil towards Jona.

I can no longer go or I would have given you both a lift. An alternative if slightly longer route would be to get the S9 from Zug to Affoltern am Albis then change to the S15 which goes all the way to Rapperwil. The change is very easy in AaA just walk from one side of the platform to the other.

Kids are lovely. And so generous. One little angel put his half chewed bit of cheese in my mouth the first time I went to a Rappi thing.

That's a shame Lou, would have been a great chance to have a long needed catch up

I am going to be bringing a very wriggley 8 month old, hoping there are plenty of baby sitters available!

Re: The second Rappi Bier Ploughmans of 2011

For those who want to write / stick something in Begga's condolence book, I will bring colourful felt-tip pens, scissors and glue. Should be there from about 13.00 onwards and will probably stay until at least 14.30.

Argus, did you see my message about the lift?

Wow, that's fantastic, Kittster! Would very much appreciate it - I could meet you in Holhäusern too if you don't care to drive into Cham; it's just a short bus ride away. Thank you very much!

We can slowly make our drunken way home later in the day - thank dog summer days are long.

I will try to improvise a volcano. No promises though as the hot weather is making me, the cookie dough and frosting melt faster than dear Begga's wit.

Plus a few shooting stars for the Star that she was.

GG,

My guest is a big prosecco drinker. Do you think you could gently persuade the brewery to put a couple of bottles on ice for us tomorrow? Thank you.

Re: The second Rappi Bier Ploughmans of 2011

always wanted to get over to one of these and having a cheeseloving hubby we may try to get there tomorrow, especially seeing as there are lot's of kids coming and our boy will be happily occupied playing (finally!) with kids in english!

and i think it would be a nice time to get us on out there and enjoy the day with everyone, not letting the chance go by or a train ride get in the way.

just wondering if it is feasible to take the train from lausanne- when i check it seems quite easy, a bit long, but that's what uno is for

is it as simple as it looks from lausanne?
